Are the Mechanical Hunter pets all from the Cunning Family or are there different families of Mechanicals?
All of them are cunning without exception.
Sadly… they are all Cunning… it is rather infuriating… especially since their unique ability is more befitting of a Tennacity pet… and half of them are based on Ferocity pets…
They really should have given us 3 distinct categories of Mechanical pets… one for each pet spec…
Or better yet… NOT REMOVED THE ABILITY TO CHOOSE OUR PETS SPEC!!! I would even be happy with this feature having been limited to Beast Master only… because the vast majority of Beast a master exclusive pets are Tenacity or Cunning, and for any high end group content you have to have Ferocity…
Well, guess Mechagnome Hunter is out.
Anyone can have a mechanical pet if they are trained for it.
I’m aware, I was asking to help with the decision making process of what to make my Mechagnome when I get to him.
Actually SoO has a recipe where you collect all these ingredients (paint and mechanical parts) and then you can build the mechanical scorpion like the one in the raid. It’s a fun little side project.
They’re all cunning. That being said. Cunning isn’t really as bad as folks make it out to be and at the end of the day, it really depends on what you need. If you absolutely need the bloodlust CD and leech that comes from Ferocity pets, or the health % gain and damage reduction from Tenacity then I suppose you don’t have much choice.
If however you want a pet for soloing, then mechanics are fairly solid thanks to the damage reduction shield they have, which is essentially identical to the one used by bears, beetles, turtles and gorillas.
This times infinity squared. I so miss using some of the more unique pets I’ve collected.
Yeah, that was a pointless change.
Here’s the thing about that, though…the leech from a ferocity pet makes it a better tank than either of the other options. Basically, the only reason you’d take a cunning pet is for the movement speed.
They should really just give us back the option to pick our pet’s spec. Or hell, to actually train them to use specific abilities again. It’s very annoying to basically only get to use either a ray or a spirit beast, because everything else is useless in comparison.
Exactly. The whole fantasy of the hunter is about the bond with the pet they tame. Not animals like tools in a toolbox.
I don’t know about that.
I have multiple hunters, and I’ve noticed that when I pick either a Ferocity pet or a Cunning pet, I’m still using Mend Pet fairly regularity unless I’m doing content I’m overgeared for. Sure the 10% leech helps, but only to a point.
The exception to that rule would be if I’m using a pet from the Clefthoof family, because their family abilities make them incredible tanks and boost their self-healing, especially when combined with the Aspect of the Beast talent.
But other than that, I don’t notice much of a difference.
You don’t “need” a tenacity pet… you can do fine with a cunning or ferocity pet, you just have to watch the health and adjust your playstyle. I have leveled several hunters with non tenacity pets. My dwarf hunter has the slime from Wrath and does fine. My Vulpera has a pair of foxes. I think only one hunter actually has tenacity pets and that one uses stags.
The only time I’m not using a ferocity pet is when I’m in a group where my pet’s not going to be tanking for me. In which case I use a spirit beast for the extra personal defensive and Spirit Mend.
If you’re fighting anything where you can get decent value out of Beast Cleave, your ferocity pet isn’t going to die. And if your pet isn’t healing itself a lot, it might be because you don’t have claw, bite, etc macro’d to all of your dps abilities, meaning your pet isn’t casting them as often as it could be.
Just play BM with the Animal Companion talent. Then you can run a spirit beast for your main pet and a mechanical as the animal companion. That’s what I do on mine.
