I have an older custom built PC, but a newer 4k monitor.
My FPS is pretty bad in game when my resolution is set on max 4k (30+ fps), but the game looks amazing in 4k
When I bump my resolution down to 2560x1440, I get 70-100 fps depending where I’m at on 6-7 quality setting. About the same fps when doing 1080 on 8 setting.
Curious what I can do to get a higher fps while utilizing 4k? Would replacing the grapics cards do the trick, does it have anything to do with CPU?
A gpu upgrade would work miracles for you. Since Navi launched I’ve taken advantage of the cheap rx580’s and rx590’s floating around for cheap. I pull 60fps in suramar on 1080p at max settings with the rx590 out of the box paired with a Ryzen 5 2600X if you’re curious.
That said, 4K is tough on hardware. If you want the high FPS 4K experience, be prepared to fork out some serious cash for the best new stuff, like a 2080ti and a beefier cpu (not familiar with Intel models’ capabilities, sorry. I’m Team Red all the way.)
Your question is difficult to answer but your video card is lacking. 2 GB is extremely small for 4k. You really want a 8 GB card to be using a 4k display.
The thing is that tossing in a better GPU won’t solve performance issues. Right now you are GPU bottleknecked. With a GPU that can handle 4k, you will be held back by that CPU.
4 cores even with hyperthreading is out dated for newer games.
If you get a new GPU with at least 6 GB of VRAM then you will be able to play classic wow at 4k without much issue. Playing other games will be hit a miss depending on how CPU intensive that game is.
Core i5 3470 vs Ryzen 5 2600X
That is a huge performance difference. 60 FPS at 1080p is not good perfomance. That’s barely mid range especially if you’re talking about getting 60 FPS at 1080p in WoW.
I should clarify, I have my FPS capped (edit: by the Radeon software, since I can’t display higher than 60 anyway) because my panels only do 60Hz. I have no idea what my actual FPS cap could be, I’ll find out when I upgrade to a better monitor.
I hate to barer of bad news but if you want to play at 4k levels then you need to expect to pay the 4k price. On the same token, you don’t need to go out and build a $2,000 system either.
OP’s system is showing its age. Heck, my gaming laptop has a 7820 HK, GTX 1080 and 16 GB of RAM and it’s showing it’s age
I feel ya. That’s the one down side to PC gaming. You save for months for that awesome upgrade and then a couple months later it’s already out dated lol.
