Question about frenzy

So I’m brand new to hunter, currently level 42. On ice veins it talks about frenzy stacks. In the description of barbed shot it talks about frenzy. I have yet to get a stack of frenzy. What is the deal?

Whenever you use Barbed Shot, a buff is placed on your pet which is called Frenzy.

Each stack of it increases your pet’s attack speed by a lot. It can be stacked up to 3 times.

The goal is to maintain that buff at 3 stacks for as long as possible.

Barbed Shot also generates focus, and each time you use it, you take away a portion(12sec) of the remaining cooldown of Bestial Wrath. If it is on cooldown that is.

No, I understand all that. What I’m saying is that im not getting frenzy stacks no matter what I do. I’m asking why that is

Is there a rank 2 or 3 barbed shot in your spell book that you haven’t gotten yet?

Some abilities have multiple spell ranks learned at particular levels, I don’t know if barbed shots frenzy effect is added on later or not.

Otherwise you should see a buff show up on your pet and near the center of your screen to keep track of it, if there isn’t a spell rank required for frenzy then all I can say is disable all add-ons and reload your UI, if that fails open a ticket.

Have you looked at your pet’s unitframe after using a Barbed Shot?

Again, Frenzy is a buff that your pet gets, not you. Meaning it will not show up among your other buffs on your screen.

Looking at wowhead, I can see only one rank of Barbed Shot. It’s learned at level 12, and without any talents, it should apply 2 buffs: On yourself, there’s an 8 second buff called “Barbed Shot,” which restores focus. On your pet, there’s an 8 second buff called “Frenzy.” If you’re not able to see them, I’d suggest you reset your UI:

Where do I see a buff on my pet? Like where would that show? That’s the case. I didn’t think of that

It shows on your pet unitframe. Place your cursor over it after you’ve just pressed Barbed Shot and you’ll see the buff.

And yes, the default UI does a terrible job of assuring awareness of what is arguably one of the most important elements of the spec.

Tip:
Either get a weakaura that allows you to track that specific buff.

Or download an addon which you can use to add an aurabar which, same as above, tracks the specific buff.

I myself am using the addon NeedToKnow as I prefer to display the buff as an aurabar rather than an icon.

So I tried weakauras some time ago and it seemed too complicated. I’ve been using something called “tell me when,” instead. much more user friendly. I’m wondering how I would go about tracking a buff on my pet

I’m using the addon “NeedToKnow”.

As you can see in the image below, just below my target unitframe at the bottom center of the screen, there’s a bar that says “Frenzy(3)”.

That’s the addon showing the remaining duration as well as the number of stacks.
Some prefer it as an icon, others(like myself) prefer it in the form of a bar.

With TellMeWhen, you open up the settings for the addon and type in the name of the buff(Frenzy), followed by filling in the other correct settings(such as what unit to monitor, along with other conditions), so that it appears as you want it.

That looks great. One of these days I’m gonna break down and figure out how weak auras work

Thanks.

Most of it comes from the addon called ElvUI. And as explained earlier, NeedToKnow makes up the aura bar for Frenzy(also have one more bar underneath that one for Beast Cleave, as BM).

ElvUI is a UI-replacement addon which allows you to customize pretty much everything.

I’m not big on Weakauras myself, I only use them for encounter-related stuff which the guild as a whole does as well. Things that I can’t manage through the rest of my UI.

You can set your pet as your focus target so you will have it visible. Also, in the main UI, Frenzy appears above your health bar below your character.

Get a weak aura set which shows the frenzy stacks and other abilities and cool downs. Immensely helpful. I strongly recommend Luxthos weak auras. Just Google Luxthos. It’s the first link.

The {Personal Resource Frame} (that HP-atop-focus bar with only the most relevant buffs tracked atop) is probably the easiest default-UI means of tracking it. Honestly, it works better than most nameplate or Weakaura trackers, even.

I use WA for it now, but the PRF was just fine for tryharding dungeons when leveling.

Like this:

The key pieces are What To Track (Frenzy), Who To Watch (pet), and Buff or Debuff (Buff). Everything else is just style, for the most part (example, the `Custom Texture makes it look like Enrage rather than Barbed Shot, so I can differentiate the two).

Here’s what it looks like in action (it’s the far-right icon):

Dude, that is awesome. I figured it out a few days ago, but you brought up something I definitely haven’t figured out that’s been driving me nuts. I cant stand that it’s the same thing. I dont even want to make it a different picture, I just want to make it a black square with the little number and big number. Just a solid color, doesn’t have to be black. hpw do I do that

Hmm. Now that may be easier to do as a weakaura, unless there’s a convenient black square icon (which may not exist in Wow). Weakaura has some general shape options, and those can be desaturated and/or recolored.
