Question About Flamestrike vs Ignite

I have a question about Fire AoE. I am currently using this build:

For AoE, should I be spamming instant Flamestrikes or should I be doing my single target rotation and just not touching Flamestrike at all?

Fire is in sorry state DPS-wise right now, but I’ve been experimenting with talents and trying a bunch of my own unique builds. That being said, I share your same sentiment. It really does feel like Flamestrike is a negligible button. Compared to focusing on Phoenix Flames and Ignite— Flamestrike seems a bit forgotten.

I’d love to hear other more experienced Fire Mages’ thoughts on this.

I have been messing around with both builds (flamestrike and ignite) in heroics and i have been getting better luck with flamestrike build . Of course i have to say fire mage aoe is so bad outside combustion, i can’t believe someone thought this was ok to release like this. When in combustion its…Ok…,but that is not happening every pull and your dps won’t keep up . I feel like they should just give us a new fire aoe spell that works.

Having such low mastery this early in the expansion, especially with how fast things die in Heroic dungeons, ignite’s gonna have a hard time doing meaningful damage. That said, if you want to play with Flamestrike I’d recommend dropping the talents Master of the Flame, and Controlled Destruction to take Quickflame and Mastery of the Phoenix. As we get more mastery and longer live times later in the expansion, it’d be a good idea to pick up the talent Mark of the Firelord as well. Fire’s in kind of a sorry state atm though, so don’t expect a lot.
