I haven’t really tackled the dungeons yet. I hear you can level up faster doing dungeons and can receive some cool items. I’ve been a little hesitant to try because I feel I’m not an experienced player. I guess I just need to jump in and do a few of them.
any pointers? I’ve been told to turn off my pet during dungeons……not sure why thought.
Glad you decided to try out the game! Dungeons reward decent loot depending on the difficulty of dungeon. I suggest you start with a normal dungeon as they’re a cakewalk. You will not have any issues completing a Normal BFA Dungeon. I would get a feel for each dungeon then move on to a higher difficulty. It is not hard, I promise.
Tips:
Follow the Tank, he leads the group
Keep mobs off of the healer, if the Tank is sloppy.
Dismiss pet if the group is skipping a pack of mobs, if not, theres no reason to.
You have to queue for dungeons through the Dungeon Finder tool. Press “I” on your keyboard to access the dungeon finder and then choose “Random Dungeon (Battle for Azeroth)” once you do that, click the “Find Group” button. You will be placed in a queue to find a group.
Normal dungeons drop 400 gear and heroics drop 415. You are randomly matched with four other players. I would run 1-2 normals to get the hang of it, and then queue for heroics. Most dungeons are fast and easy there are so many overgeared players. You don’t need to be an experienced player. Dungeons and raids are two of the most fun parts of the game for most players.
The basic rule for a new dps player is wait until the tank attacks or pulls one of the mobs before you start attacking. Always use your pet unless the group announces it will sneak past mobs (very rare) as Lyke mentioned. I don’t think this would ever happen until mythic + difficulty.
For a BM hunter, if there is no mage (light blue) or shaman (dark blue) in the group, it’s important to use a ferocity pet preferably bat or ray for primal rage (bloodlust) on bosses. It gives the entire group a massive haste buff which means much higher damage. You have to manually use the skill (in your spell book), and you usually get only two uses per run due to 10 min cd. Bats and rays also have buff steal which is good in dungeons. If there is a mage or shaman in group, spirit beast pets are best for the heal and buff steal abilities. Petopia site will show you where to tame all pets.
If you have a struggling group (rare) with a bad tank/healer, use a clefthoof pet they are great tanks and also have primal rage. Clefthooves are the strongest open world solo pets too. As soon as you enter a dungeon the game automatically turns off growl on your pet so he won’t taunt mobs away from the tank. If it’s a real bad group (rare), you can turn growl on (right click skill on pet tab) so your clefthoof pet can help tank some mobs.
Later when your higher geared you can start doing mythic + dungeons, which are a more involved system. Many players spend their entire WoW life in mythic + dungeons.
