Hi, quick question.
Does the hit chance for druids in form (bear/cat) rely on weapon skill? I can’t seem to find an answer online…
Thanks in advance!

In my understanding, Bear and Cat form do not use weapon skill. They function as though they have max weapon skill and they cannot get weapon skill from gear. They do benefit from Hit rating from gear though.
I can understand the confusion. The reliance on weapon skill seems to be listed in many druid bug threads. My experience has been to the contrary. My 1H mace skill is 1, yet I can tank just fine with my Ardent Custodian in hand. My 2H mace skill is only in the mid 100s, but I can DPS just fine in cat holding Smite’s Hammer. I really don’t think weapon skill comes into play while in form, period.
It shouldn’t but I’ve heard there’s a bug in classic and it does.
No, weapon skill makes no difference when in cat and bear form.
If you think about it it also makes sense that blizzard designed it this way. Since you do not get any skillups to weapons while in feral forms. So it would mean that you would need to stand there in no shapeshift form and hit mobs for hours,
Doing no damage, in order to level the weapon skills.
Rest assured, weapon skills make no difference while in feral form. This also means that many gear alternatives are worthless for druids. What is useful however is hit and crit chance.
It’s not supposed to but, because there’s a bug in classic causing it to, you may want to level your weapon skill anyways until it is fixed
The bug is a display bug only. The character sheet will show your attack rating as the skill of your equipped weapon.
It does not actually affect your combat results, this is easily testable by anyone who wants to spend a minute at it.
If that’s the case then yea, don’t bother with weapon skill at all.
I just know some druids were saying, at one point, that it was causing them to miss more frequently. Maybe that was just them misinterpreting what was happening.
I think it’s most likely that they just had a frustrating RNG miss streak and blamed it on weapon skill.
But you can easily see, attack a target of the same level with weapon skill 1 (while in form, obviously), and you’ll see zero glancing blows. No matter how many times you miss, dodge, parry, whatever; that’s just RNG. If your weapon skill was actually affecting it, you’d have basically nothing but glances even when you did hit. Drop form and attack with your 1 weapon skill and see the difference instantly.
leveling weapon skill isnt a bad idea regardless
as a druid you will eventually, inevitably, miscalculate or otherwise botch up mana use and be stuck in caster form oom and need to rely on weapon auto attacks to save the day
not a big deal but by level 30 i have become somewhat obsessed with not dying and being locked in a 1v1 in caster form oom missing every auto attack because weapon skills arent up to par is a good way to get a gy run
