Question about classes

Hello,

Out of curiosity, who can name a dps class that hass been consistently in a decent place through every expansion and does not require addons to play optimally?

I was thinking of starting up in classic and gradually working this character through all the classic expansions.

Right now i have Warlock, but not sure if i picked right.

Thanks.

I don’t know about the last few expacs but I’ve had a blast with Warrior this expac and I don’t use a bunch of addons. (few QoL ones)

Rogue

Warlock is actually a pretty decent choice for what you’re after.

I need to find the video but there was one about which class as a whole has spent the least amount of time being in a tier lower than B.

Warlock was I think one of the best while still bringing enough utility to make them useful when not.

that’s what i was thinking. I know Mage is probably up there but i hate playing Mage. Warrior (IMO) sucked for quite a few expansions Wrath and Cata to name a few. Rogue i am not sure :\ Never tried rogue.

That’s not a bad pick. just stick to one of the pure dps classes so you always have a fallback option. rarely are all three specs bad, and if they are, one gets fixed fast.

As for the addons, besides the normal ones everyone uses, like DBM, bagnon, etc, your probably safe with anything. there are plenty of addons for each class that make things easier or more convenient, but you don’t need them if you know the class and spec well.

I like the hunter and warlock because you have the hunter pet and demon respectively who can tank for you.
I find I don’t need any addons.

Class? Almost all of them. Almost every class will have one spec that’s in a good spot every expansion.

Addons aren’t required to play optimally, they just make it far easier to track data to play optimally. The base UI displays most of the same information, it just doesn’t do it in a way that is anywhere near as easy to consume.

I’ve never quite understood why people fuss and moan over addons. They’ve been core to the game for 20 years now, They’re available to everyone and trivial to install and configure … just use them.

Druid has been pretty consistent for me. I stick with boomie through ups and downs, but if I felt like it, I could switch over to feral when it’s stronger.

Mage, hunter, warlock are always solid. It’s rare that all 3 specs would be low end at the same time.

I always see people put WeakAuras to track deamons / dots and so on. I don’t want to find myself in a place where my screen is cluttered with pretty bars that don’t let me see the actual game.

yea, just another example of addons helping, but not really necessary. unless you plan on running top tier content

true… unless you look at Dragon flight and find that Hunter is bottom tier in everything LOL! I just don’t want to be stuck in an expansion with a crappy class no one wants. I know every expansion had that ONE class…

You have an awful lot of real estate on a monitor for placing stuff in a way that doesn’t obstruct your view.

Yeah, I can’t think of a class that didn’t have at least one xpac they were at the bottom. If you want a challenge, go Shaman, and revel in being behind all other dps on a consistent basis.

LOL! Poor Shaman. I don’t think they were ever top shelf.

WoW more or less requires addons to play optimally. If you don’t like using addons, you should either stop worrying about playing optimally or go find another game.

There is enough going between your class rotation and mechanics in raids and M+ that addons are important for reducing your cognitive load and allowing you to do everything you need to be doing.

You’re just going to make more mistakes without using addons, because you’re making it harder to keep track of things you need to be watching.

I forget what expansion it was…Cata or MoP (somewhere in there)…elemental shamans were beast mode.

i don’t mind things like DBM and other boss / movement helping mods. I kind of don’t want to keep track of that AND the mods that keep track of my class. On live i need an addon to keep track of my dots, my demons, or whatever else because there are a lot of skills that overlap with different cooldown timers and durations.

That’s kind of why i ask if there is a class that doesn’t have so much stuff that i can go without using addons to do whackity smack.

I always keep a levelled Warlock. One of their specs at least always seems to be doing well, if not great.

Mage is usually the other one, though I think the Warlock has a slight advantage in this race.

Probably mop caus that’s when they could move and cast. it was glorious.
