Question About Character Race

When you create a new character on WoW, how do you make a decision on the race of that character? What impacts this decision?

Chose to be an undead because it kinda look like me irl.

I chose orc because it has skills that synergize with my class.

I chose Blood Elf because I think they are the best looking race. For the Horde!

I chose a troll because of the benefits and buffs that go with the class and how interesting it looked! It also just seemed to fit the role or look more lore accurate in my opinion.

I pick the class first. Once I do that, I look at the options for races. Draenei (original or Lightforged) > Dwarves (original or Dark Iron) > Night Elves > Void Elf > Worgen > pretty much everything else. Looks, lore, customization options, casting/ability animations all play into the race that gets chosen.

doesnt really matter anymore. years ago races in wow sort of chose what class youd have the best luck with but these days it doesnt matter as the difference in terms of min maxing is trivial and pointless.

long as you arent playing a gnome mechagnome, panda or vulpera youre gonna be pretty okay. picking the ones i mentioned is pretty garbage.

If a character’s primary purpose is a professions, I’ll try to match that up with any profession bonuses races get. If I’ve got a good RP concept for a character, that will dictate the race. If none of those apply I’ll usually go Troll or Blood Elf for Horde and Night Elf and Draenai for Alliance. Generally, I find those 4 races look good in most gear and I also like the lore of them.

I mostly focus on mogs & class aesthetics.

But if I can go night elf, I will. Free invis/combat drop is nice.

WoW offers an awful lot of nice things gated behind rep with factions.

The human racial for increased rep can quite literally save days of gameplay to farm rep.
