Question about BM hunter

hey all, quick question about cobra shot. how often should i use it and how much more or less should auto attacks be than the cobra shot. its been about 3 years since i last played bm. just started up again and my ST damage seems rather low. any help would be great! tyvm!

It’s generally lowest prio, and to simply it should be used when barbed and kill command is not available.

Cobra shot actually does have an important role in your DPS.

Based on the current ST build used by most:

It reduces the CD of Barbed Shot, which in turn, reduces the CD of Beastial Wrath.

Not a top priority/big damage dealer, but also, not something to neglect as it does help prop your damage by increasing uptime on Barbed Shots and Beastial Wrath, also when BW is active, it resets the CD on kill command.

So again, not your ‘big damage dealer’, but still very important to ensure it is being incorporated into your rotation.

It also has benefit in M+.

It’s a filler in-between. If your main abilities are on CD you use it, but if Barbed Shot has only a second before it ready then just wait. You want to use your focus correctly and don’t want to be starved buy using Cobra Shot then missing your Barbed Shot.

You mention auto shot like its something you need to worry about, auto shot basically works in the background and has nothing to do with your rotation. Dont even think about your auto shot you have no control over it and it doesnt affect your rotation.

Cobra shot is only to be used when absolutely all your other abilities are on cool down. Cant cast anything? Cobra shot, sometimes cobra shot even 2 times in a row because the occasional weird timing where everything is on cooldown for 2 whole casts, but thats rare.

Thank you all for the info and advice! Sorry for the late reply I’ve been very sick! I will take this advice and putit into use

Snakeskin quiver, serpentine rhythm, and barbed scales with a lot of haste combine to a pretty profound effect for BM’s apm rotation. You’re only casting cober when you don’t have charges/procs of other stuff to cast. Barbed scales lets you manipulate your CDR such that you’re pushing as many KC/barbed casts into BW as possible. Snakeskin quiver helps to keep serpentine rhythm up when you’re in burst phases without globals to cast cober, and also provides more passive cdr to barbed. Serpentine rhythm both makes those cobra casts that you eventually do use less meaningless, and also gives you another pet passive that more or less manages itself.
