You don’t know what’s happens to someone else account. You saying nothing happened to someone’s account isn’t remotely true. More so when you’re basically guessing at this.
Blizzard’s game, Blizzard’s rules.
But if you want my perspective as a potential teammate, it’s incredibly selfish and it lowers my team’s chances of winning. You say you keep getting on losing teams? Well, maybe everyone else is playing as selfishly as you and that’s why you keep losing.
Besides, if you are so good that you can survive a 2-on-1 ambush when you are in another game and have to transition over mid-battle, that’s probably talent that the team could use on the front lines.
It wasn’t a two on one, I had a warrior with me. Also in classic AV horde for the most part do not try to win, it’s faster to cap bal/lts and let allies win, its about hph, (horde in classic have faster q times than alliance) which makes me mad cause I want to win. I was in a few AVs just now 5 or so are in caves, 5 were fishing (why have fishing nodes in AV?) and the rest were sitting at SHGY after bal/lts. Myself and a few others were trying to push north but I got killed and got sent to the cave, couldn’t get back north allies had choke, and our base, so I went fishing with the rest lol.
The whole reason for the silence was me getting super angry about people doing what I described above while we were winning all sitting outside at Van when we were ahead. I used very negative language to describe the team, and got reported and got silenced. So, yes I am done in AV if the attitude is to sit around and wait to lose, and I’ll get in trouble if I yell at the team- then yes I am not going to try to win anymore. I’ll kill some mobs get honor and wait to lose. If I see that horde are actually trying to win, I’ll do my best, but if not, I’ll be multitasking getting what honor i can before we lose.
This is generally the line on “defenders” in battlegrounds:
I’ve definitely defended towers before in AV, especially as a rogue even one person hanging back can make a big difference.
But, if your whole team is calling to have everyone come down for a big push and a person or a few people are still hanging back despite not having much more in the way of an objective that would help move towards a win to do or that won’t be impactful to the game, they might decide that you’re AFK. Basically, it comes down to if other people in the BG think that you’re deliberately not helping and going along with what they need you to do, and are doing nothing instead, they might report you as AFK, and Blizzard might agree.
If the rest of the team is calling on you to come help, it’s better to go help than stick to doing your own thing, because BGs are a team activity.
I can guarantee that doesn’t happen in classic AV. The only way someone gets reported for non-participation is if they are serial offenders, IE everyone knows they afk in the cave every game. Usually it will go something like: “We have playera on the team, he’s just going to afk in the cave, everyone report. He does this every game.” Being afk for even a couple of minutes in the cave, or being afk/multitasking on an objective, no one reports for that. I have never been flagged as a non-participant either. although I have accidently sat at an objective for too long without any input and went /afk and got kicked that way.
Defending used to be a solid strategy, but then people spammed threads they were “AFK” so… Hence the non-participation penalty. I don’t agree with it ofcourse, one stealth can backcap and they may need to be around to see if everyone’s gone or not. Alas.
