I’ve decided to level my Druid through BfA and I’ve been trying to refamiliarize myself with all 4 specs. Unlike my other toons, I’ve found that trying to quest as Resto is really unpleasant. While it’s fine in Disc Priest and Holy Paladin, Resto Druid seems to take much longer to actually kill things. So I went back to Balance and found the new system quite repetitive and boring. So I switched to Bear and had a lot of fun doing that and figured I’d try out Cat just to test everything. In total contrast to Bear, Feral was probably my worst experience, since I spent a lot of time running away from things so I could heal, which also transformed me back into base form. Unlike Bear and Balance, where I could take the hits and still kill things relatively rapidly, Feral was even worse than Resto, in that in multi-target fights I was taking too long to kill things before they would injure me so badly that I couldn’t survive another fight. I was trying to figure out what I was doing wrong, but no clue as yet. (I’m level 43 and running around Vol’Dun, BTW.) Thanks for any advice.
I’m pretty sure that this is because resto druids don’t have much damage abilities.
The abilities they do have aren’t buffed too much.
Then again, resto druids were designed for healing and not much for damage.
Right. It’s just that, since Cataclysm, the idea was that people could quest in whatever spec they wanted because quest gear was tuned to the spec that they were playing in (stuff for healing would show up instead of stuff for tanking, for example.) And I can quest perfectly well as Disc Priest or Holy Paladin or Mistweaver. My worst/slowest experience with a healer spec was with Resto Druid. Obviously, it’s easier/more efficient to quest in a DPS or tank spec, but I was just wondering if others’ experience had been similar and if there was some advice for trying to quest as Feral, which was even worse than Resto.
I feel like all heal specs are slow but resto shaman and druid are more painful for me. I do have balance affinity on the Resto druid which gives more damage spells, but my spell bars are already so cluttered, I tried to set up a new bar with moonkin form so I can use the spells without crowding my usual rotation, but then using heals takes you out of it. I’m still trying to find a good way to do this so I get the hang of it. I used balance spec most of shadowlands because questing felt so much better to me and I switch to it for dailies. I pretty much leveled up to 50 (120) as a healer in battlegrounds on my druid. I dislike questing solo on healers in general.
I thought I was the only one who noticed feral was taking too much damage.
I’m sure it’s fine at max level–but I was questing in Westfall and Redridge Mountains as feral (cat) spec…and couldn’t take more than three hits before my health was 50%, and I only had regrowth to heal myself (so I have to shift out of cat form–and hard cast while the mobs continue to hit me)…
Yeah. I died a lot as feral.
I quest as guardian. It’s boring because I have like 2 buttons compared to 200000 as feral–but I’m not dying.
So it’s not just me who felt the resto was too squishy and damage-wise numbers were puny. I did 99% of my levelling and questing as resto druid including Korthia dailies, it was and is a pain. However, Guardian on the other hand is where you activate the inner beast and it’s a cakewalk for the most part unless you pull MORE++ than u can chew.
