Questing as a mage

i didnt really have much of an issue while levelling. i mostly just scouted my pulls and kept my barrier up and blasted things as fast as i could.

Frost is my fav spec especially when leveling. All the CCs, slows, “oh crap” buttons.

I took a long break from the game and came back for legion and decided to main mage and used a boost. as fire I simply could not kill a single thing and raged, went back and releveled a new warrior and it became my main again.

fast forward to understanding the mechanics of the game again I realize I absolutely love fire mage but its too late now and ill never go back

long story short its a learn to play issue

Go frost and you can pull big and just aoe everything to death because nothing will ever get close to you.

They say frost is best for leveling as stated by many of the posters due to their additions “oh shyt” dave skills. I personally just couldn’t get the “feel” for frost. I have 3 fire mages on different realms and factions. I love fire (well the pyromanic in me sure does) and I really never died much. Just take it 1 enemy at a time or get a friend or guildie to come and help oh level. It’s much more fun with company! Gl!

Post your mage if you haven’t already. The only reason you would have trouble is if you’re under geared. I usually main my mage so going into new expansions I’m in heroic if not mythic gear so any leveling is faceroll. Any spec should level fine. Fire is good but also randomly pulls mobs that are close to target so you can get overwhelmed. Arcane is my favorite because of arcane explosion and arcane blast at 4 charges.

I undeleted a level 115 arcane mage that I had sold off most of his gear, and had to fill in what I could from the AH. He was so underpowered that I couldn’t stay alive no matter the spec.

Then I read online somewhere about taking the Mana Shield talent, and alternating between Arcane Barrage and Arcane Missiles. Doing that, I had basically an endless shield and no cast time, and it worked out pretty well. Even after I got some more gear, I kept the play style because I really hate cast times. Probably not breaking any DPS records with it, but it’s fun burning through the mobs that way.

unless you’re choosing to face-tank stuff, you shouldn’t be having any issues.

you’ve mentioned nothing about spec, nothing about gear, nothing which can really help anyone to help you.
