The “Fire and Gemstone” sidequest in the Ringing Deeps requires quest items “Awakened Cog” and “Ringing Gemstone” to turn in. With respect to the Ringing Gemstone, the quest description and quest objective text (“Acquire […] a Ringing Gemstone from Mole Snuffling”) suggest that it’s found by digging up wax piles, but this is incorrect - it’s awarded for completing enemy waves in Awakening the Machine, just like the Awakened Cog.

I spent an hour and got 100 Globs of Wax before Googling if I was doing something wrong… After a few pages of searching, found and read this thread, decided to do the awakening the machine part, and got both items inside. Came here to comment. I hope this makes it to the front page of Google for everyone else…
