Quest Completionism in Classic

Questing is my main WoW activity, and I really strive to complete all of the possible quests in a zone. In retail, there are achievements that now track all of the sub-questlines in a zone (like MoP introduced). Earlier, those achievements would simply track raw quest completion numbers, so you would aim for like “72/72 quests” and the like.

Since there are no achievements in Classic (I think), how does one keep up with which questlines they’ve completed, which zones they have finished, etc.? Do you just have to keep notes in a separate spreadsheet or something like that? I would think that questlines sometimes crossing multiple zones would make such tracking even more complicated.

Back in 2006, I remember having an addon that kept a running record of quests I completed. However, it wouldn’t know quests I’d done prior to downloading it, and if I had to do a full UI reset deleting addons I lost all that record.

I don’t know when a script was added to query the server on quest completion, but at some point possibly in TBC the addons could do that and fill it in. Nor do I know if they intend to have that query available in WOW Classic.

NOTE: DEFINITELY no achievements in Classic.

There will most likely be a completion type addon just for questing.

I think even as far back as Vanilla you could run a script command to see if you had completed a quest or not. The tech is there, and I wouldn’t mind having this myself.

I started in wrath but I think there was some kind of server code you could use to track quest completions. it has been so long though

AllTheThings. It’s being ported to classic. Great addon. The author posts here.

You need a sheet or mod. The game won’t tell you what’s completed or not.

Does /script print(IsQuestFlaggedCompleted(Quest#)) still work?
If so you could use that script for all of the quest IDs or someone will likely have an addon that can check that.

Their are addons that will be available in classic to help you with this.

Allthethings was already mentioned and is a fantastic tool. Not only for quests but basically everything.

If you’re going Alliance, you might find this useful:

I planned on something similar. I’ll definitely be grabbing this addon, as I like to track quests I’ve completed. Makes organizing my ALTS more convenient as well.

You don’t know. You honestly don’t know if you’ve found all the quests in a zone, not unless you check sites and see which ones you’ve done. And the quests aren’t all in hubs, or located conveniently just inside the dungeon’s entrance, so you might never know you missed a quest for a dungeon in the Eastern Kingdoms that started in Kalimdor.

I used the WoWhead Profiler back when I first did Loremaster before they revamped the quests in Cata and put the zone achievements in.

I will probably just rely on Allthethings this time around since I already use it in current WoW.

I’m a no-changes guy regarding Classic, but this kind of randomness will probably drive me crazy until I learn all of the zones. This will be my first time questing in Vanilla/Classic.

I think back then i had a piece of paper with check boxes that I wrote on from thottbot or wowhead lists.

Explore. The best way to make sure you’ve found everything is to explore the entire zone.

I’m going to explore. I know I will miss some on the way to 60, so at 60 I will grab an addon and go back to complete everything.

Even in low level zones, there are sometimes a higher level quest you can go back and hit up, which are easily overlooked as they may not have a silver ! on your early trips there, or there may be signs and doodads with no !. I remember a few offhand but won’t spoil it here.

I am jealous and I hope you have fun!
