The quest mentioned within the title is currently bugged and no progress whatsoever can be made towards completion. My guild-mates and I have researched the issue and attempted every suggested method to attempt progress to no avail. While doing some research we discovered that this very same quest was confirmed bugged back in 2007 during the original TBC client. Hopefully with some renewed interest this quest can be fixed once and for all.

still bugged bumping for relevance.
Is it still bugged? i tried yesterday with friend and no credit for kill.
Still bugged, 3 of us tried, it had tabards on, killed 3, no credit, tried abandoning, tried again, more kills, tried without using hunter pets, with pets, melee only. Lit a candle, nothing worked. no credit.
Still bugged.
Confirming still bugged! It’s got some pretty sweet items as rewards too, so hoping Blizzard fixes it.
Just completed Dissension Amongst the Ranks for the Slayer’s Mark ring.
What worked was this:
- Kill Level 69 Colossus, not the Level 70
- Kill at least one of the Shards prior to the Colossus dying
- Pull pet back before the Colossus dies, so that your pet does not get the last hit
Unfortunately, wasn’t able to do much testing to control for the variables. Got 2 credit for each Lv69 Colossus, but 0 credit for the Lv70 Colossus. However, while killing the Lv70 Colossus, I think we also didn’t kill one of the Shards prior to the Colossus dying. So maybe it’s the Level, maybe it’s killing a Shard first. When I tried it the other day, we got 0 credit across 3 separate kills, but I do not remember what Level, or whether we killed Shards first; and on top of that, we had pets possibly taking the last hit.
Additional info, did it duo with a Shaman who summoned Elementals, but we made sure the Elementals didn’t attack the Colossus.
