This works in 2020 to get past Darkblaze! Take that COVID!
Bugged first try, someone else was there. I abandoned and tried again and it worked.
This quest has been bugged where the dragon gets stuck in a fight with at 3 hps for well over a year now or longer and World of Warcraft is more concerned with lining their pockets with our sub $$ then fixing simple quest bugs.
Operation Recombobulation is another bugged quest you guys have. Got to 4 out of 8 quest items and the guys that were dropping the gears stopped dropping once both myself and party got to 4. Killed over 50 and not dropping anymore. What does Blizzard do all day if they can’t fix these bugs???
In fact, I just left the party with my friend and we started getting gears again. Something to do with quest syncing is bugged Blizzard, look into it

I aimed for the neck and finally defeated, try it out.
I just did it multiple times and it was bugged. Then i realized the quest is not bugged its his positioning. If you can find a way to bring him away from the horn, i.e. the fence back up the hill or even to the castle, you will notice that he is walking or moving on the terrain instead of slightly under it. hope this helps
I did it by keeping my distance, letting the npcs dog get aggro and bring him back to me. it was bugged but worked in my favor. You can do this by letting them talk when you get close and then just backing up
I just did this literally seconds ago. I fought him RIGHT ON TOP of the horn. Where he is doesn’t matter. I did literally ZERO dps. When he gets down to like 10%, he kills the entire “bravo squad” then eats the one guy and flies off. You get the hit right there and win. Do nothing and win, just like real life. The key is to NOT KILL HIM. If you get him too low the script bugs. Don’t do a damned thing.

Still bugged I can’t believe I can’t finish this quest ffs!
Hmm, was playing for the free weekend and thought maybe I would give WoW a sub. Luckily this experience convinced me to save my time for something else…
The encounter was still bugged in 2023 and I found this old thread. After 3 glitched attempts where the dragon got down to 1 HP but wouldn’t die I just camped out, logged back in, and clicked the horn once and then backed up closer to the castle. This spawned my party members and they followed me. I did NOT attack just stood there and it completed. It did get temporarily glitched by another player who was also doing the encounter because they are partially phased from you (I can see their pets but not them or their version of the dragon) but my version of the dragon appeared to be trying to attack them. Eventually, it stopped attacking them and came to attack my party and then the quest progressed and was completed with me doing nothing.
