I just started playing a ret pally in DF. I havent played since Shadowlands.
Apparently Fyr’alath the Dreamrender is the BIS weapon. How do I actually get this in S4? Is it RNG?
I assume I’d have to wait till awakened Amirdrassil and kill Fyrakk. I am only ilevel 476. Does it even drop on LFR?
It drops on Normal and LFR, but at an EXTREMELY low drop rate. The only ‘guaranteed’ way to get it is to kill him 15 times on Heroic difficulty with the Bad luck protection rolls that only really add up to a reasonable amount on Heroic difficulty. No, Fated does not matter, it just has to be Fyrakk. After obtaining it, you’d be able to boost it up to S4 item levels for 2 Bullions.
It does drop in LFR. Each difficulty level beyond that has a better chance. If you complete it only on a harder difficulty, the drop chance of the lower difficulties is added (so you don’t need to do it multiple times a week across difficulties). There is also an item that permanently increases your drop chance that may drop as a consolation prize.
It is likely difficult to find a Fyrakk group presently when the raid is not Awakened.
It can take you weeks and weeks and weeks and by then you’ll be in the beta or prepatch and not care much at all. But hey if you really need it for xmog purposes might as well start now.

More or less. The bad luck protection only really takes the edge off if you were farming it from the start in S3, starting to farm it in S4 means pain unless you get lucky.

No, you don’t need it.
Firstly welcome back to the game!
It maybe worth to try for the axe. It is just a matter of luck, but you lose nothing by doing say LFR each week. The non-fated Fyrakk will likely still run because of others who need it.
As an alternative Ashkandur which can be bought using Bullions is our second BiS weapon which you can buy using Bullions. It might not perform the same as the Axe but it is higher than everything else.
I play a few plate and on the ones that don’t have the Legendary I intend to use Ashkandur.
I only do LFR and my warrior has 19 kills with no drop. Good luck!

The 2 i got on alts from lfr are not worth the gold sink on.
Yeah I finally finished my axe yesterday on my paladin… took 15 heroic kills and about 250k gold to craft. Not gonna continue running lfr on my warrior (19kills and counting in lfr) because the quest sucked (it’s tedious, not necessarily difficult but just not fun)

Yes it indeed BIS, the proc alone upped my damage over 12%. You definitely don’t have to wait for awakened version and it does indeed drop from LFR, but at a low rate. Got it on my main week 15 solely from LFR. You probably want to run it on normal/heroic to up your chances. Not sure if you can buy it via bullion but you can buy an upgrade with it. 
It can drop in LFR but extremely low chance. The best thing to do is to clear the highest difficulty Fyrakk you’re able to, because if you were to kill say Mythic Fyrakk, it would include drop chances for LFR, Normal and Heroic in that kill.
There is no meta-gaming or multiple chance rolls on Fy’ralath by clearing lowest difficulty and then going up–it is a massive waste of your time to try going from LFR, Normal to Heroic in order to “farm multiple Fy’ralath rolls”. The drop chance in both Normal and LFR is abysmal to begin with, and if you can just quick clear Heroic, it includes the chances to loot from all difficulties under it anyways.
Groups are still running H Fyrakk for Axe Drops. Theoretically, it should be easier to farm right now since everyone’s ilvl is pushed up by S4. You do not have to wait until Awakened Amirdrassil to start farming.
I got it today in LFR on a 2nd toon. (The raid wasn’t awakened)
you cant upgrade to s4 anyway so having it doesnt really matter lol
It at 496 is still a pretty fat upgrade.
The DoT is an absurd amount of damage for a BDK for sure!
