I’ll get 500 honor for winning a horde game that takes 5 minutes longer to join, but is completed in the same amount of time. Lets average that to 15 minutes.
I’ve spent 25 minutes and gained 500 honor.
I’ll spend 4 minutes on alliance to queue for a game where I’ll get 150 honor for losing a game that, again, lets average at 15 minutes.
So I’ve spent 19 minutes as alliance to gain 150 honor.
Or
I’ve spent 25 minutes on horde to gain 500 honor.
Anyone and I mean ANYONE gearing up an alt or whatever on alliance is just stupid. Do it on horde and do it faster which is what 90% of the population that is queueing up for these games already understands.
However people merc moding into alliance on alts for queue times doesn’t mean that they’ve done the math of it and the other half of the issue is what you could call a …cultural? Problem for alliance, Alliance has always been the PVE faction by and large and if a larger number of dedicated pvpers are on Horde then you get less adept players on average for alliance.
Sometimes I open the map when I have to defend a node and the team is all over the place like everyone is confused on what to do and focus on, or they hesitate to push into the enemy team when they need to and get whittled down. This happens on horde too of course but seems to happen more often on alliance, in epics.
I would however like to hear your thoughts on why alliance is losing and what can be done about it.
Yes, alliance has always been the underdog. Thats always it and thats the nature of the problem and 17 years after the beginning it still persists in a more potent form.
Theres not much to say about it. Take it for what it is, a player preference that left unchecked has resulted in a lopsided factions.
There may well be an answer to it but I don’t think its one blizzard can do themselves, not easily anyway.
Top pvpers tend to stick together and queue up for rated and only queue for randoms when they got the rating they want, but how do I as just some guy know the person trying to direct the BG is experienced or not? The answer may well be that the Alliance simply needs to be more pro active into getting more people to PVP and not only that but to teach them how to PvP well. There’s communities and guilds dedicated to this but there may be a need for a bigger push if we want to see a real change.
What we’re talking about is a battleground. Its not World PVP.
All you need to do is create an incentive for playing on alliance that outweighs the negatives.
What are those?
Majority of players are horde, ok.
Majority of BG games are won by horde, ok.
Majority of endgame content is run by horde, ok.
Create incentives for each of those parameters that make alliance a more lucrative option to play.
My feeling on this subject is that developers/cash cows/their friends tend to play horde more and there has been little adjustment to that to keep the status quo.
Objectively this alienates people and forces them to purchase character transfers, which benefits blizzard in the short term without addressing the long-term. Which is why blizzard is in such a down trend.
Are you suggesting monetary, honor, conquest or additional gear as bonuses for the alliance because they’re less popular? If everyone switches to alliance for these bonuses would the bonus not just swing back to horde afterwards and cause another exodus?
Or do you think its only needed in place until the factions seem more even then cut the bonus off entirely?
Lets say I have 100000 players queing on horde and 100000 players queuing on alliance, that would make the times based on pings? Maybe a minute or less.
Now lets say I have a 10 minute horde queue time and a 5 minute alliance time? What does that mean?
It means twice as many players are playing horde as alliance, maybe even more if you factor in the 15 minute average game time.
In that respect, what would you feel would be an adequate incentive to bring even 25% hordes to alliance?
What I know for a fact is that this is happening and continuing to happen and its getting worse. What I know for a fact is that nothing is being done to rectify this.
In all honesty? If we have to offer a reward for playing alliance the answer could be as simple as this, rating no longer affects ilvl of conquest gear and alliance gains let’s say 20-30% more conquest (but only for actual alliance characters) just as an idea I feel that going toward a WoD gearing approach with gains shifted toward the alliance might encourage some people to come back and more often queue up for PvP. This isn’t a concrete answer of course just an idea.
I have noticed is that Horde tends to be more offensive minded than Alliance. You could argue that it is because of gear but that’s not always the case. I think Horde players are more aggressive in general and their choice of faction is no coincidence. So gear being equal, I would give the edge to Horde because of their attitude.
That would actually make the win loss ratio about equal. 16/22= 0.727 and 5/7 = 0.714, which means that more or less your win loss ratio per faction is identical. Granted, you have a small sample size but on my rogue here I have about a 50/50 win / loss ratio per battleground. If you asked me last night or yesterday morning I would have said that is a lie due to losing back to back battlegrounds, but it evens out when you start winning back to back battlegrounds. I think the problem is perception really.
My last BG played on my Druid was WSG and I had lowest damage done but I had 2 Flag Captures. My team was crap talking me the whole time because, as they put it, “A druid should be top in damage”
That’s a neat story, I’m very proud of you. Has nothing to do with what I mean, but Im still very proud of you.
People not involved in team fights won’t have damage/kills. Sometimes that’s the fc, sometimes it’s somebody guarding a node. But you rarely win games when the other team is destroying you. It happens, it’s memorable, but it’s not the majority of the games
Big teams fights are few and far between. Tiny little skirmishes happen all the time. When I see someone with top damage and no defends, captures, no azerite collected, literally nothing done except killing a bunch of people, then I don’t want that guy. I would rather have the alternative. You know, the guy who’s not here to swinging his dingy around in a BG and focusing on the objective and winning the game.
This guy right here?
That’s a unicorn.
Damage and kills don’t matter, as long as you and your team can hold your own while playing the objectives then you should be fine. The people who have the “kill kill KILLLLL” mentality are why people lose BGs.
Honestly I know a lot of people get alts and none of them have used Merc.
The whole horde merc gearing is just something on forums. People would realize it is much slower. I mean doing a WSG with zero flag caps and barley any kills they would see about 100 honor.
People just started the rumor on forums to push their own agenda saying a problem exist where it doesn’t.
That is completely wrong. I can constantly get top damage and kills on my toons. I actually could be the reason we won the node but you’re saying I am trash because I didn’t click it? I will let the idiot click it who is constantly clicking it in the middle of a team fight not doing anything in our mount up after we win to apply pressure to a different node. This is the mentality that people are talking about. If the other team is dead they are not getting nodes or doing anything. Whether you want to believe it that is objectives…. Who cares who “clicks” a flag. Good job at showing up on the team fight doing the least amount of damage not helping but you click that flag the moment the fight was done!!
