QoL Request - Spiders in Yazma (Atal)

When the spiders spawn on Yazma, they are ridiculously hard to see given the size of the swirl. I popped Tree, then immediately died to the the spider spawn because the model of Tree completely covered the spider spawn circle.

For a mechanic that can actually insta-kill you, I think the circles should be far more noticeable, at least for the sake of making sure people don’t get randomly RNG’d by having them spawn under your character and not being able to properly see them.

What do your graphic settings look like? I’ve never had an issue in AD, but I played the first half of BFA, running mythic dungeons weekly, and never realized there were swirly’s on the ground at the end of the bridge before the “eye room” in ToS. Simple setting was off, which was a game changer there (and the outdoor area in WM)… Could be something similar for AD… /shrug?

My settings are all high or ultra and they’re still quite small.

Yazma’s spider circles and the last boss in UR circles could both stand to be bigger. Theyre relatively easy to see like 95% of the time, but sometimes theres too much ground clutter.

I agree, on high Tyrannical weeks I’m constantly moving out of fear I miss that 1 spider due to ground effects.

I typically play at 6, and the setting you’re talking about is projected textures. I have that on, it’s just they are so small and if you have ground clutter; Volcanic, DH Darkness, even Efflo mushroom if it’s a super niche case. They will all block the spider spawns, and in the 20+ keys I’m doing these are definitely situations that can come up, and you will die instantly if the RNG is bad.

These are just ground clutter effects too. If you have Incarn up as Resto, the model is big enough that it’ll block the spider. If you’re in melee and you have a hunter, a semi-large hunter pet like a turtle will block them as well. You can “kinda” see it, but by kinda I mean it’s something you’ll see when you watch the vod after and are actively looking for where it’s spawning after it killed you.

An easy fix is just to not have them explode when they spawn, or give us like a 2 second grace period after they spawn to where they don’t just insta kill you. Secondary, just increase the size of the projected texture.

That’s exactly what happened to my team and it’s kinda the reasoning for this. We were doing a 19 Atal, as basically a mess around push key so we could get something higher to do. Everything was going smooth af right up until Yazma, when we got giga spawn spiders that actually would spawn under ground effect mechanics and would insta kill us. 3 pulls of Yazma later, we ended up finishing the key but like yikes dog. We’re all just shy of 3k IO, we’ve done enough Atal’s to understand what to look for, and we still couldn’t see them.

I personally don’t have any issues seeing them as their purple color is unique to the rest of the color palette in that area. Do you happen to have any type of color blindless? They’re intended to be slightly harder to notice when not enlarged, are you also having difficulty noticing the circle when they are enraged?

Make sure you have Projected Textures on as well, if this is disabled it will massively increase the difficulty of noticing ground-based spells.

I was doing a shrine where the adds during the final boss bugged out and were evading the whole time.

Gotta love it when things like that happen.

Did a 16 ML and the obelisk add stopped following and sat there and evaded, then eventually rubber banded to us lol

The meme of “beta for azeroth” came out of many hard ugly facts.

We’re talking about the tiny purple swirl on the ground before they spawn. Once they’re spawned they’re very easy to see

I hate tree form TBH, it’s big and also has a weird green poison looking aura under it, both which obscure view.

I use tree form but I hate it.

If you look at it objectively, not seeing a swirly, that was preceded by an audible cue and a cast bar, is an indication that you failed to manage multiple overlapping mechanics.

Any excuse that you dream up about why you had to stand still is simply a description of what series of failures lead you to that poor decision. Just in case it crosses your mind, the number of times it makes sense to die trying to save someone from their mistakes is near zero.

Therefore, because you know Echoes of Shadra is happening, your primary focus is identifying the new spawns and avoiding them. Once you’re safe you can refocus on your next priority.

You’ll be more successful at this game if you’re prepared for mechanics before they happen.
