QoL: Layers

Layers should be removed if the population would allow it.

If removal will not happen then layer swaps should be added to UI to select what layer you want to be on with a cooldown, and some mechanics should be patched such as you should always zone into the party/raid leader’s layer if you d/c.

Currently more resourced players are able to swap layers intentionally and for gain. however the current system isn’t widely known and it punished those less technicality knowledgeable regarding UI/layer , not directly related to WoW in-game strategy.

Hope this makes sense to everyone. Thoughts?

$70,000 annual income required to change layers.

If you’re not savvy enough to change layers, you’re also not savvy enough to profit from layer swapping.

This is a non-problem.

Layers will go away when the population warrants it.

this happens automatically :expressionless:

EQ2 had I guess what we’ll call layers when it came out. You could see which instance of a zone you were in and there was a drop down to change to another. So I guess I don’t see why this wasn’t a thing. I mean sure there are people that would potentially abuse it, but one could reason they likely already are.

Umm layer swapping is easy and done well before any streamers came or the server.

Even those meh guilds that scoop newbs or restarts out of Elwyn Forrest will layer you if you ask in GChat.

The world buff addon will tell you your layer and you don’t need to be a streamer to get it. I have been playing Vanilla for 2 months now and it was not that hard to figure out exploit.

It’s already being abused by layer hopers lol

and the those technically ignorant of this bizarre not-original feature are left to suffer.

How are they suffering, exactly?

One example that comes to mind is that they are on a saturated layer and can’t get any tags because they don’t know layers even exist. yeah sucks to be a noob but this isn’t really part of game-knowledge that they should be punished for not knowing. it’s a bizarre technical vestige created because Blizzard wants to accommodate everyone playing on the same realm as their favorite streamer.

I don’t really see any argument in favor of this bizarre “plz layer me” system.

It should be removed or added to the UI.

Not happening at this point.

Ever consider transferring to a server that’s not a megaserver?

Out of curiosity I just logged into Hardcore for the first time in quite a while. I’m standing in Orgrimmar on Defias Pillager and there’s 2 people here. However, when I use /who I can see there’s hundreds of people in Orgrimmar.

There’s WAY too many layers. This was the main reason I stopped playing. The world feels dead. I can’t believe they haven’t done anything about this. It’s terrible. It makes it look like an empty world. Get rid of the damn layers.

Edit - I also just went and looked in Stormwind, and while there’s more people around…it’s definitely not overcrowded. I don’t know how many layers there are but you could easily 5x the population and it would still be perfectly fine. This is so anti-Vanilla.

By the way, if they do this with SoD it’s DoA. Some layers at launch are probably necessary. But this is just ridiculous. Especially when we’re doing world pvp in Ashenvale.

Unclear how you’re suffering here.

2005: “There are too many people. I refuse to move servers! Blizzard, fix this!”

2023: “There aren’t enough people. I refuse to change layers! Blizzard, fix this!”

2052: “There are too many mutants. I refuse to fortify my compound. Blizzard, fix this!”

2076: “There are too many xeptoplofs. I refuse to garglenoff. Blizzard, fix this!”

That hasn’t been my experience in SW.

If it bothers you, just ask for a layer 1 invite.

It’s ridiculous to have players asking for layer invites. It’s World of Warcraft. Not World of Warcraft…cut up into 72 layers.

Yeah, let’s have 72 dead servers.

That sounds just great.

No, you accept it’s an mmo and there should be massive amounts of other players. Being invisible to you, spread out on a dozen layers is terrible design.

Yeah, go roll on an IP theft server with no data security.

Just switch to a more popular layer you actual goofball :skull:
