QoL features impact on game explained

Gonna take the time to write out what the potential impact of each of the requested QoL/retail features some people think the game needs so maybe they can understand why these sort of things are not wanted by others because of how they would change the feel of the game.

Transmog: yes you get to look however you want but you also lose the ability to look at someone and instantly recognize what lvl of gear they have and know where they got it. This may seem like a small change but it would have a huge impact. You can look at an enemy in pvp and be like “uh oh they are decked out in raid gear, better not mess with them”. it dillutes the meaning of your in game achievements

Dual Spec: If you can always be the best spec for any situation the game will need to be balanced around that. part of the casual nature of classic is the game isnt tuned to have the best talents for every situation so you dont need dual spec unless you have some kind of mental problem with always needing to minmax everything til its not fun. If your choices dont matter then you dont matter. youll have a lot of crap tanks who would rather dps rocking a tank spec just to get in groups faster too at which point no one wins, not you or the group.

Instant Mail: Not the biggest deal but it is currently a thing you need to plan ahead for instead of receiving instant gratification. whats so wrong with delayed gratification?

Summoning stones: Warlocks value in the game is instantly diminished and youll find groups you form begin arguing over who has to go to the stone and who gets to afk for the summon. at least now everyone knows they gotta run too if theres no lock or you arent doing the dungeon. Also by erasing the need for people to run to the instance youve just cut down on the number of dynamic world interactions on your way to the dungeon (PvP, Herb and mineral nodes, chests etc)

15-30 minute hearthstone: youve just shrank the world and added to the problem of less world interactions same as summoning stones. also contributes to mages and locks being less valuable with portals and summons.

More flight paths: maybe 1 or two could be added here and there but this also contributes to the shrinking of the world and should be done very carefully.

RDF/Raid Finder: Part of the reason the game became mindless is because in order for random groups to be successful the game had to become easier. AoE Tank threat became mindless and the whole meta became AoE everything as fast as possible as a result so people didnt feel like they were being paired up with a failure of a group (honestly this mentality has already seeped into the community anyway of AoE everything and forget mechanics which sucks). The world also shrinks because you sit in the main city and queue for dungeons and wonder why youre bored.

I’m sure I’ve missed some of the other QoL features people have asked for but the main point is this. Any one of these things might not seem like a big deal but all of them contribute to SHRINKING the world and making your choices within that world matter less.

CONSEQUENCES MAKE THINGS EARNED IN THE FACE OF SAID CONSEQUENCES HAVE VALUE! That includes the consequence of needing to travel across the world. The world is the main character in Classic WoW and is probably the major reason it is still loved to this day. Shrink that world and you shrink how much the game will be enjoyed in the end.

I will never understand the argument against dual spec, the rest I at least can see the argument.

comes back to consequences making things valuable. you can currently respec all you want, but theres a consequence, making the spec you wish to be have value.

Its a temporary seasonal game mode of a 20 year old game based around discoving new and fun abilities. Why do you want “consequences” lol.

People just want to play pvp, or swap to healer to help their friends and have preset bars.

because I want to value my time in the game. If theres no consequences for anything then nothing matters. If you got everything in the world you could possibly want would you care? no

Your argument is terrible, but I can see there is no point to continue. Have a terrific day.

my argument is a universal truth that permeates every corner of the universe. if something is not hard to achieve, it has no value

Traversing the world for 45 minutes because there’s a lack of flight paths or teleport doesn’t add to the difficulty.

People will just click a flight path to the nearest location and alt tab until they land, then they auto run to the destination.

Nobody is “observing the world” as we walk to our destination.

The “world” is 20 years old.

There’s nothing new to see.

Could easily be negated through the introduction of a “Toggle Transmog” switch in settings.

Not gonna discuss my argument since it’s already been mentioned in the thread

Between two separate people? Sure, I agree. But between alts on the same account? It just gets annoying. For me, there is little gratification in sending my bankalt gold to buy something but having to wait a total of 2 hours to get it

Speaking as a warlock here, we also have much more to offer than summons. People will still crowd around meeting stones as they do outside of instance portals already, providing a decent amount of PvP activity.

Agreed (although in my experience, people would just rather log out to wait for the hour cooldown to expire instead of paying a mage or warlock to port / summon them from Tanaris to Stormwind)

Agreed. Some should be added, but not to the extent that Cata added them. Could take inspiration from the flight paths that TBC/WotLK added, such as “Emerald Sanctuary” in Felwood, Ashenvale’s “Forest Song,” “Rebel Camp,” in STV, and “Thondroril River,” in the Plaguelands.

I recently leveled from 1 to 80 with a couple of friends on WotLK, where most of these QoL changes exist, back in June. While this was before the introduction of RDF, my friends and I still partook in massive journeys throughout the world. One of my most fond experiences in this was having to travel all the way to RFK and RFD from Ratchet and encountering multiple Horde players along the way, since we were on Grobbulus.

But that’s just my two cents

incorrect. if it takes longer to get to where you want to go to achieve what you want to achieve, then when you do achieve it it will feel more rewarding as a result. this is fact

OR…

we’re grown adults and we know it’s a video game and we say things like “why couldn’t they put a flight path here?”

and we still get the same dopamine of instant gratification.

  • Gold sinks are good for the game
  • Your character spent time training in that spec, so being able to change it on the fly is a bit immersion breaking (for those that aren’t used to dual spec)
  • as OP stated, making it easy for people to always be in optimal specs forces the content to always be tuned around it.
  • Also some classes can pve /pvp in the same specs, while other cannot - the ones who cannot pve / pvp in the same specs often end up stronger in those areas when specced for one or the other.

What about allowing us to have a different PVP Talent Spec tree when we queue into WSG. Because i dont mind having a balanced spec for world content\world pvp and raiding but for PVP WSG my built is completely different to my pve build Like Completely

Everybody respects for WSG anyway its just annoying and doesnt impact the world at all if they added in PVP queue Talents

That’s the tax some classes pay - whereas others can do both in the same build.

At least in vanilla - it was all the top parsing classes that paid that tax. Whereas most mid tier / lower tier dps didn’t have to worry about it as often.

This legit sounds like someone who has an addition trying to justify their actions.
It’s like saying “Life doesn’t mean anything if you don’t have to deal with horrible low points!”
No, it just means you have a better life lol.

Add the gold sinks elsewhere then. The issue isn’t inherently the cost (especially since it’s incredibly low and capped at a super low price on SoD, although some people don’t like the cost), but rather having to hearth, run to your trainer, reset your talents, put all your talents in, re-do your whole hotbar, run back to a gryphon, fly back to wherever you originally were. Then you have to go back and do it again just to go back to your original spec.
Like for me personally, if they made is so you could only switch your dual spec while in a rest area and also made it cost 20s every time, I’d still use the hell out of it just because it automatically fills out your talents (because you did it once before) and it swaps your hotbars.

And telling an npc “hurrdurr reset me” and then being able to instantly respec after paying the money to that npc isn’t “immersion breaking”?

Everybody respects for WSG queues though. Having duel spec for WSG wouldnt impact the world it just means we dont need to run to class trainer before queue spamming. At least at 60 everybody would respec to the PVP talent. Not as important atm at 25.

ive never heard that idea but im not totally against it just having “Battleground spec”

although that would open the door for other avenues of specialized specs like Raid and Dungeon inevitably.

interesting though

Raid and dungeons to me you need to go into the world to queue them. Go into hard elite areas and clear them to get to instances fight people ETC.

WSG is just queue from capital. I think its different and would be a low impact change

But it reduces a hard decision - right now respecs are really cheap, but often on a fresh they are really expensive relative to the gold you have.

So playing a warrior or rogue optimally in both pvp / pve was really expensive, whereas you can run a hunter in both without ever respecing.

However, the hunter dps was always lower in pve. It was all part of the balance.

I am not talking about World PVP and having a balanced pvp\pve in the chance you PVP while doing some PVE quests, im talking about queueing for WSG from your capital city. Everybody respecs at max, nobody plays PVE builds in WSG nobody has a “balanced spec” when its 1 gold to respec. Eventually 1 gold will be nothing at all and it will just be annoying to run to the trainer to respect everytime you queue.
