Do any of the Azj’Kaheti nerubians ever talk about the Qiraji?
Not in person that I can recall, though an in-game book about the “lord” form of nerubians criticizes the Qiraji and Mantid for mindlessly swarming their enemies and throwing lives away, whereas TWW has emphasized that unlike their cousin races and the aqir before, the nerubians don’t traditionally treat their own people as disposable soldiers, so they specifically created the spider lord form with an eye toward promoting tactical and strategic intelligence that can win battles without wasting nerubian lives.
Which is one of Anub’azal’s points of contention with the Sureki regime: An’surek’s generals - especially the Ascended ones - don’t really care about preserving regular nerubian lives, so their tactics against the Arathi mirror the Aqir/Qiraji/Mantid practices of just hurling bodies at the defenders to overwhelm them with numbers. Interesting that the nerubians faction that cozied up to a Harbinger of the Void quickly backslid into acting like expendable Mantid and Qiraji servitors again. Almost like getting their own soldiers killed in large numbers was less a uniquely Mantid thing to weed out the weak and more like an ancient and very deliberate tactic used by agents of the Void to feed off the deaths of their enemies and their own servants.
Nerubians do seem to be a lot more nuanced and refined than either the Qiraji or Mantid. The latter two were solely focused on the old gods while the nerubians abandonment of old god worship gave them a lot more individualism and freedom to pursue other activities, such as art and philosophy
That being said, I did wish that the Qiraji would have made an appearance again
Mantid did have some refinement and nuance while questing with them in MoP. Unfortunately, they never grew out of their Old God Worship like the Nerubians did. Maybe if they’re revisited later in a post-Old God world they’ll have some ideas…
It’s interesting that Xal didn’t approach the Qiraji or the Mantid with this offer either. Both have connections to the void, and while they were old god zealots they might view Xal’s offer as a way to have a throwback to the days of Azj’aqir. Also I wonder what the N’raqi and Aqir reaction to Xal’s presence will be.
Also, off topic, but I’m betting the surviving nerubians in Northrend will be given Xal’s deal as well in The Last Titan
Well the expansion isn’t over yet. They could show up as the villains of the final patch.
You assume she didn’t offer it and they haven’t taken it. I’m sure she’s lining her future disposable forces for years to come. Plus N’zoth offered them a place in his empire and many suffered heavy losses especially the Mantid. I doubt even if they did accept the offer that they’d be able to spare thousands to her cause.
Yeah, we did a very heavy number on the Mantid (killed their queen, most of their higher ranks, their paragons, literally any of them that aligned with Garrosh). And iirc they usually only rise in population once every hundred years when all of their brood hatches, so I feel like they’d put forth a bit of a lackluster fighting force if Xal’atath tried to recruit them for anything (even if they do chomp at the bit to serve the Old Gods at every given opportunity).
Maybe patch 11.2 could be the Qirajis.
It’s possible. Also, the Qiraji are the only group of enemies still using vanilla models I think. Blizz seems to find ways to make old enemies relevant again as an excuse to update them visually.
