Q&A Compilation -- WoW Classic Development Team AMA

You’re a special kind of stupid, aren’t you ?

If Blizz decides to do a corrupted blood plague “bug” event, then this skeleton change will not be the same.

Also, Bots used the actual player corpses to spell out words not their skeletons. They had multiple accounts and left their dead characters on the ground and logged off.

Tell that to the Jewish players who were confronted with swastikas on the ground in WoW. Pretty sure that ruined their “immersion.”

You’re wrong. This was done for a reason. It’s not a slippery slope change and it’s not a QOL change. It was necessary.

I’m sorry people are disappointed. I’m disappointed, too. I loved having the skeleton piles.

But Blizzard isn’t the one you should be upset with.

thank you for the detailed answers!

Just for your information, there actually was a working LFG tool in vanilla. It just didn’t work very well in the sense that it did not consider class make-up, nor give the option for anyone to teleport anywhere.

well #nochange then. The AMA had a bunch of devs using that hashtag.

While swastikas may be offensive to Jewish players, that’s merely reality. As always, you can choose to be offended by it, or choose to move on.

Home Depot ain’t gonna stop selling spraypaint or sidewalk chalk just because some dumb kids were dumb. Walgreens isn’t going to refuse someone buying glue, sharpies, and whipped cream either.

I’m sure some people would choose to be stupid with skeletons in game today just as before, but we really shouldn’t be open to changing the game merely because a bad actor does something offensive every once in awhile. Same goes for real life, for that matter; if someone wants to take advantage of you or the situation, they’ll find a way. In game, they’ll just use /1 or a whisper.

Wrong, even blizzard has said numerous times LFG WAS NOT IN VANILLA

and here I thought it was because “my kind” wanted to kill freedom.

This makes a lot more sense, though.

I recall (correctly I hope) Ironforge near the gates was almost completely white from all the corpses due to the plague event for Naxx. It was pretty awe inspiring!

not sure what you mean by my kind? I never said that I am not racist in anyway but my point stands

I am not if favor of the swastika in present day interpretation. However our interpretation is just brief history in how it was in the past.

The Oldest Known Symbol

The swastika is an ancient symbol that has been used for over 3,000 years. (That even predates the ancient Egyptian symbol, the Ankh!) Artifacts such as pottery and coins from ancient Troy show that the swastika was a commonly used symbol as far back as 1000 BCE.

During the following thousand years, the image of the swastika was used by many cultures around the world, including in China, Japan, India, and southern Europe. By the Middle Ages the swastika was a well known, if not commonly used, symbol, but was called by many different names:

  • China - wan
  • England - fylfot
  • Germany - Hakenkreuz
  • Greece - tetraskelion and gammadion
  • India - swastika

Though it is not known for exactly how long, Native Americans also have long used the symbol of the swastika.

The Original Meaning

The word “swastika” comes from the Sanskrit svastika: “su” meaning “good,” “asti” meaning “to be,” and “ka” as a suffix.

Until the N*zis used this symbol, the swastika was used by many cultures throughout the past 3,000 years to represent life, sun, power, strength, and good luck.

Even in the early twentieth century, the swastika was still a symbol with positive connotations. For instance, the swastika was a common decoration that often adorned cigarette cases, postcards, coins, and buildings.

During WW2 the swastika could even be found on the shoulder patches of the American 45th Division and on the Finnish air force until after World War II.

A Change in Meaning

In the 1800s, countries around Germany were growing much larger, forming empires; yet Germany was not a unified country until 1871. To counter the feeling of vulnerability and the stigma of youth, German nationalists in the mid-nineteenth century began to use the swastika, because it had ancient Aryn/Indian origins, to represent a long Germanic/Aryn history.

By the end of the nineteenth century, the swastika could be found on nationalist German volkisch periodicals and was the official emblem of the German Gymnasts’ League.

In the beginning of the twentieth century, the swastika was a common symbol of German nationalism and could be found in a multitude of places such as the emblem for the Wandervogel, a German youth movement; on Joerg Lanz von Liebenfels’ antisemitic periodical Ostara ; on various Freikorps units; and as an emblem of the Thule Society.strong text

No! Someone else did! I liked your post. I found it useful.

Liked all the responses except the skeleton change. Awesome part of the game removed because of a few bad eggs.

was removed because of $$$$$ Blizzard wants those Chinese accounts,

Why can’t MC have a staggered loot table? Why are people allowed to get bindings before they can even get the weapon?
