Looking to making this priest my main next expac. Beta shadow priests feel really nice and I'm bursting higher than my DK and fury warrior.
I ran out of stuff to do on FFXIV.
Welcome back, Icpity!
Icpitl! You're back! I've missed your posts. :D
In light of my recent forum suspension for simply telling someone they were bad at gold making, I have decided to unsub again.

Aww Nixx. Don't leave us.
Yeah, I got tired of Diablo, then I got tired of FFXIV, so I'm trying this for a while.
I figure I'll either do what I said I wouldn't and get BfA, or burn out in a month or two and thereby confirm my decision not to get BfA.
So far I'm liking being back on Azeroth --- the WoW environments were always more creative despite their low resolution. But I miss the clothes from FFXIV.

Wish I had time to try FFXIV. My middle child streams it along with LoL and various PS4 games. I work 60+ hours a week so my game time is restricted.
Thankfully 2 out of 3 of my kids are legally adults now so they can (or at least try) to look after themselves.

Okay, well, for anyone who gets headaches from lurid WoW landscapes, I recommend the protanopia filter.
I find the newer zones to be extremely beautiful and easy on the eyes. No really bright areas, save for a few fel areas.
Yeah, the newer zones aren't as bad. Mostly the problem zones are:
most of Outland odd-colored deserts, like the Blasted Lands and possibly Durotar anything involving night (or nightborne) elves anything Naaru Bloodmyst
Un'Goro and Feralas don't seem to bother me for some reason, so maybe lurid green isn't as much of an issue as lurid red, purple, and blue.
I made my first transmog with a tabard. This time I went for the purple void theme. Unfortunately Wowhead won't show the swirly purple orb on the staff. I think the hood is my favorite part, though.

So, one of our pipes burst for no apparent reason. Now my mother's carpet is wet and smells bad and has a fan blowing on it and I'm like, this is disturbingly familiar.
My sleep schedule is totally off now. I was awake all night, then asleep all day.

Now I'm getting frustrated with WoW too. I'd forgotten just what a train wreck the instanced content can be.
All my heals are weak and puny, and everyone's running around crazily and attacking everything in sight, but it's fine because nothing you do in heroics matters anyway.
Today in H Neltharion's Lair I didn't have to heal the tank at all.
It was a feral druid.
But for all that I vastly prefer instanced content in FFXIV, I really prefer world content in WoW. So I don't know what to do.

Also, I had the most purple dungeon ever. It was me in my new purple transmog, two demon hunters, and a paladin (because pink is almost purple). The fifth member left, presumably because they weren't purple enough. And it was the Arcway so the dungeon itself was purple too.

I usually cue as a tank and go frost. Heck I've soloed heroic dungeons as frost. Essence farming makes heroic dungeons hilariously fun to tank.
If I stay as blood I'll just pull everything to and including the boss.

When I know the healer, I tank them as boomy- threat is an issue, but dps usually kills before anything bad happens
Does anyone play Guild Wars 2? I got the free version and made myself a necromancer, and now I'm wondering if I shouldn't remake him as a mesmer.
I kind of like the theme of necromancer and the rot damage. But it seems kind of restricted in what it can do. It's good with AoE damage, but bad at single target. It's good at organized PvP, but awful at duels. It's unkillable against multiple enemies, but weak against bosses. It has basically zero utility for PvE groups. It also tends to function more like a traditional MMORPG class rather than a GW2 one.
Mesmer's, like, better at all that, but also harder to play if you tend to have slow reaction times. It's also better at healing, though that probably doesn't matter since roles are only a thing in raids, which I'm unlikely to ever do.

I played a mesmer in GW and GW2 and it's my favorite class by far (though the GW2 rogue thing was pretty fun too) and I highly highly recommend it! It's a ton of fun what you can do with your clone decoy guys, and as you kinda covered, it's a versatile class. Get yourself a 1H (wand?) for a goofy clone spec, and take a 2H sword for big damage. :o
As for being hard to play or needing fast reaction times, I didn't really find that to be the case. I for one am not someone that reacts very fast to things >.> and my IRL dexterity is on the low end. I am good with the keyboard but once my mouse comes into play, oh lawdy, I can't even accept summons half the time because my hand spazzes out so much.
ANYWAY
I have not played in several years but mesmer was definitely the bomb back then and none of the other classes shined as much for me. I felt the same in GW but shoutout to the cleric/priest thing. It was hard to even be motivated to level my alts since I already had a wicked sweet mesmer.
PS. I'm so bad with class names from other MMOs. Hopefully you get what I'm saying.

Hmmm. I can kind of see that. Necromancer seems a little boring in comparison.
The mesmer greatsword is something I'm leery about, though, because I hate the notion of "spellblades" in every RPG, and apparently you can't transmog between different weapon types in GW2.
Do you remember anything about the lore, theme, and story of mesmers or necromancers?
I think I like the theme of GW2 necromancer. I always want to play a necromancer in RPGs, but I find that often the "dark" theme goes in a different direction than I want — it's more gory than humorous or gothic. Like, sometimes I'm frustrated with the D3 necromancer because it feels like they gave me Saw when I really wanted Corpse Bride or The Addams Family. GW2 necromancer does seem like it at least has more Lovecraftian than blood-and-guts minions.
Mesmer seems like it has kind of a fairy/theatre thing going, which isn't too bad. I know one of the initial mask choices is kind of an evil clown thing.

My dexterity is good — I'm told the doctor was very impressed with my skills in the raisin-grabbing test when I was six months old. But, uh, not combined with speed.
But honestly, I'm not entirely sure necromancer is even any better than mesmer in that department. Certainly the death shroud mechanic reminds me of voidform, which has always made me feel rushed.

Not really, but then I never played GW1.

The sword is also dangerous, it really limits your defensive capability and it keeps you on the run kinda. I mostly played it in dungeons when someone else had aggro. So that's fine, forego the sword for now, the clone spec is way more fun and imo the hallmark of the class.
Do you remember anything about the lore, theme, and story of mesmers or necromancers?
Yeah, in the first game they were a control/disruption sorta thing that had combo abilities (shatter - so like, mark up your target and then shatter the marks). They could provide support (like dispels) and debuffs (like CC and interrupts). In GW2 they kept the disruptive theme up but it's more subtle. You're more of a trickster, or an illusionist is probably putting it best. The theme is smoke and mirrors. And the shatter mechanic is still present too.
Necromancers... I even had a moderately high level guy and somehow the theme never sunk it. I mean it's a necromancer, but if there was more depth than that, I forget. >.>
I know one of the initial mask choices is kind of an evil clown thing.
Oh right, so yeah I guess that's part of their story too. You do primarily wear a mask. If you're into that sorta thing.

Right so, the rogue class is called 'thief' and the healer I was trying to remember from GW1 is 'monk.' Both of those were neat, and I can't remember if there's a monk equivalent in GW2. But it was a healer like a cross between WoW's priest and paladin.
Okay, I rerolled mesmer and I'm liking it somewhat better so far.
Thank you for your help. :)
