Conquest gear (which can be gotten through casual PVP) starts at 200.
With rated PVP, it can be upgraded all the way to 226, except for weapons, which can be upgraded to 233.
Plus, conquest gear by itself (not including the weekly vault) is not affected by RNG. You can go after the specific pieces you want.
Thus, as long as you do rated, I’d say that the PVP gear system is actually better than that of PVE atm.
The only bad thing is that you only get one or two pieces of gear per week, but this has a “carryover” effect where if you miss a week, you can get the conquest that you missed the following week.
But once you get a conquest piece, it’s yours forever. You don’t need to “replace” the conquest piece with a higher ilvl conquest piece. You just upgrade it once you reach the required rating.
So all the enchants/gems/modifications you made, as well as the conquest cost, of the gear, does not need to be replaced (until next season).

I do agree that PVP gearing is very slow. It’s concerning when even 1600+ RBG groups have requirements like 190+ iLevel, I see applicants with much above that and some with 200 iLevel, and know that I just lucked out and was likely an underdog in getting the invite to the group.
I could see how this could converge in about 3-4 months – mathing it out, it seems like it would take about 16 more weeks to get enough conquest points for full PVP gear assuming no Great Vault items, or I’d estimate about 11 weeks or so with Great Vault items. So if you’re in an above average bracket (say 1800-2099) you’ll be sitting at full 220 iLevel in about 3 months, and may not be able to progress beyond that. Anyone know how raid iLevel drops are scheduled to be upped in 3 and 5 months time?
The progression is tied to rating. Lowest progression is the 200 ilvl unrated conquest gear. Then through rated PvP, you progress to 207, 213, 220, and 226, with the weapon progressing to 233. The point of the system is to push rating as the season goes on and slowly upgrade your gear to the next bracket. It’s a really good system IMO.

Oh right, it takes four weeks to get a weapon via PVP and in order to upgrade it to a high ilvl, you have to have a really high rating.
PVE is far faster and easier for PVP gear.
PVP gear was awesome for weeks 1-2. Now PVE gear is just going to get better and better for PVP.
PVE to PVP friends. This is the way.

It’s because I want to PVP, not raid, just as raiders want to raid, not PVP.

I mean, 1800 is Heroic Raiding level, and I’m almost there now.
2100 is mythic level, and 2400 is only for parity with Mythic Sire Denathrius, which NOBODY has managed to do yet.
Nah, I’m liking the PVP system. Few more weeks of farming and I’ll have all my BIS pieces.

I wish we had a real PVP stat though, that was only on PVP gear.

PVEers need to farm a FULL set of 200 normal gear and then farm ANOTHER FULL set of 213 heroic gear and then farm ANOTHER FULL set of 226 Mythic gear?
Me? I just farm one set, and upgrade it to Heroic, then Mythic, ilvl, once I hit the required rating.
You want to farm raid gear? Go ahead dude. But don’t insult PVP gear farmers just because we’re being a bit more efficient than you are.
Have you tallied up the time that will take you with the conquest cap?

1-2 pieces a week will get me a full set in a couple months, I’d wager, maybe less.
Plus, my legendary will take up a slot.
And all my alts will be able to farm their full set immediately, while there is no PVE catchup mechanic.

4 weeks a month, 8 weeks per 2 months. (Plus some carryover due to 4 weeks only being 28 days.)
I should get 2 pieces every week, maybe 1 if I’m saving for conquest.
However, if I get the highest conquest pieces from the great vault first, I should be able to get 2 gear pieces every week.
So that’s 16 gear pieces for 8 weeks. But remember that my legendary gear takes up the slot of a conquest piece, so that doesn’t need to be farmed.
Add to the fact that I already have 2 conquest pieces (and expensive ones, not the 425-cost ones), and yeah, 2 months seems feasible.
Just gotta get a little lucky with the great vault towards the end.
And once I get my set, THATS IT.
No more farming. I upgrade my pieces with honor. Unlike raiding, I don’t need to “refarm” pieces with higher ilvl.
What makes you think weapons are dropping easily for raiders or in M+. If they need a weapon it’s completely upto RNG. Atleast we can choose and buy a weapon in 3 weeks guaranteed .
The PvP system in SL is superb . Only thing is that the random BG players ( me included ) have to go a little out of their comfort zone and play some rated games. And it’s faster to get to 1800 and get heroic gear compared to BFA where it took 3 months of normal gear rotation .
