It’s very silly to gate them behind PvP when there was a time these abilities were baseline to us and could be used whenever.
In their current iteration, they shouldn’t.
Should many, many of those abilities be baseline after being balanced for PvE?
YES
Right? Oh, let’s strip away abilities and lock them behind some stupid war mode gimmick.
How dare they gate PvP talents behind PvP!
Times change.
To the point where our characters losing abilities over time? I guess it does.
This game had a serious issue with ability bloat and it was reasonable to cut some of the clutter down in size.
What abilities specifically do you think should return to your baseline spell kit?
Spell reflection, I enjoy using this during BC and wrath to combat casters in PvE if pummel was on cd.
War Banner so I can have group utility + mobility outside of Rallying Shout.
Shadow of the Colossus(Which is passive and was never baseline) to smooth my rotation out more.
If anything, there should be more emphasis on class/spec fantasy, not less. It’s bad enough we went 110-120 without learning anything new.
There’s no such thing as ability bloat. You had core abilities that you’d be using all the time, utility abilities that you’d use as needed, and some abilities that were niche or had their primary use in PvP with some limited use in PvE.
Many of the latter two types of abilities were either removed or turned into PvP talents. Off the top of my head, Necrotic Strike, Anti-Magic Zone, and Dark Simulacrum for DKs. Necrotic Strike used to have a caster slow, which would give it use in PvE against cast timers that can’t be interrupted. AMZ’s potential PvE usefulness is self-evident, and it used to be very good before MoP made it last only 3 seconds, especially in small group content as it was just a group-wide magic DR with a massive absorb limit based on the DK’s stamina. Dark Simulacrum didn’t always work in PvE, but the times it did were what defined your bread and butter DK from a good DK. In Siege of Orgrimmar, you could use it on Kardriss in dark shamans for a huge damage increase, and also on spoils with one of the mantid adds for a ticking raidwide HoT.
These so-called “bloated abilities” added many small nuances to the classes. They may not have always been terribly useful, but learning when they were and using them was…well…fun.
Some of the abilities would for sure have to be balanced a bit more for PvE (I would love to have a 70% effective rate on darkness, but that would be kinda busted for raiding, and there are abilities that are for sure more niche to PvP (mana break/rift) but I agree that there is no reason that some abilities have been made PvP only (rogue DFA comes to mind)
Would be nice of Blizz to actually give us more talents
Kinda side thought, but those DH ones keep coming to mind. It would be awesome if they could do something like some of the PvP talents that change our abilities (Meta is 15sec with a 2min CD) to allow us to more adjust our kits to the fights/scenarios
They’re usable on world bosses, that’s a raid.
People shouldn’t have complained about having too many abilities and too much CC in MoP. The pruning is the result of the players feedback in MoP
Ehh not so sure on this one. 2 min cd on meta for M+ sounds insanely strong and would make dhs an even stronger contender in M+ which clearly won’t sit well with certain people.
Can you explain the 2 min meta to me? Never played DH.
There is a pvp ability that reduces meta to 2 mins, it also reduces duration to 15 secs, but combined with demonic you still have a good duration. Currently that talent also increases all dmg outside of meta by 5% but that is going away in 8.1
Basically that ^ was just thinking that it would be rather interesting to be able to more tune my toon (hehe tune the toon) to each fight, allowing for burst when needed, rather than having one strong burst and then a lower the next time around and so on
I know Holy Priest would be so much fun with its PvP talents.
I
I imagine many would. More specialization would be nice.
