PvP Rogue Professions

Only played retail or classic hardcore, now going into Nightslayer. Never played on a pvp server and I’m excited to learn how to play rogue as i’ve seen videos on youtube and it seems fun.

All the guides I’ve seen says that engineering is a must on a pvp server, but also that rogues need herbalism for thistle tea and blind. My dilemma is: should i go Herbalism/Engineering and buy ores from the auction house? Or go Mining/Engineering and buy swiftthistle and fadeleaf from the auction house?

Any input would be appreciated!

if you want the most out of your rogue, engi is a must, the second profession is just whatever profession you feel will make you the most money, unless you want to go super hardcore into like wsg competitively or something and then you’d get blacksmithing for the blacksmithing only insignia to make you immune to fears

The fact that rogues can choose their fights makes engi very powerful for them, lets say you are farming in an area and you see a warlock, you can just stealth up, equip your shadow reflector, wait 30 seconds and you have a giant advantage vs him that you wouldn’t otherwise have gotten

that’d be pretty hardcore :expressionless:

The general rule for most Rogues is Engineering/X. Your second prof can be a gathering prof like Mining/Herb to try and make some gold or you can just pick something like enchanting or alchemy if you want two crafting profs. Generally having a gathering prof helps to keep your gold flow but on Anniversary mining and herbing is very tough with the bots and high player population.
I’ve always done mining/engineering on Rogue. Herbing/alchemy on my alt. And then a low level disenchanter that sits in town that I send greens and stuff to DE.

Start out with mining/herbalism and keep those at least until you have your epic mount. After you get your epic mount gather up enough materials with mining to level up engineering all the way, drop mining and replace it with engineering.

You can definitely earn more gold with herbalism than you can mining which is why I’d keep herbalism over mining.

Now if you really want to make things easier on yourself I’d have at least one gathering alt that has mining and herbalism. Hunter is the best choice for this and tauren if you’re horde for the +15 herbalism skill.

this is a very annoying combo because you can’t scan for both on minimap :expressionless:

Make a macro that cycles between them. Keybind it.

/castsequence Find Herbs, Find Minerals

Get the gathermate2 addon and import the gathermate2 data.

EZ PZ.

Haha I think this is true for any class. Engineering just has too many strong items to give up if you wanna be really hardcore.

For what it’s worth though, you can do just fine without Engineering. I both ranked to 14 and feel reasonably capable in World PvP without it. There’s been a few occasions where I’ve lost a fight solely by virtue of not having Engineering but it’s not so many in the grand scheme of things. It certainly helps and I do plan to switch one of my professions out eventually, for ultimate troll potential, but I feel compelled to be the voice of reason… not having Engineering isn’t a deal-breaker.

Note that this isn’t directed at you, Peeporiot, you’ve provided excellent and helpful information. Just a general statement

I second this, I was herb/alch on shaman for the 2019 go of classic. Raided HC through BWL.
Wpvp once you’re geared, can be very viable without engineering. I won as many as I lost as a 30/0/21 Ele/NS shaman.
I ranked to rank 11 fairly easily on Heartseeker at the time.
I only ever won, 1, 1v2 wpvp in EPL.
That Ret Paladin and Druid were not getting my plaguebloom.
That was the most adrenaline I had PvPing. Definitely adds a challenge to not have engineering.

Engineering and whatever else, usually mining or something.
