PVP rating requirements should go down as season progresses as a catchup mechanic

As the season progresses, rating requirements should slowly decrease over time to allow alts/slower players to catch up. Right now, it’s incredibly difficult to climb past 1400-1500 on an alt if you’re using pure PVP gear. You’re basically ilvl 201 and past 1400 you’re very often facing people with 215+ ilvl, making the match nigh unwinnable unless you greatly outskill them.

I think the whole experience would be a lot more fun for more casual PVP’ers and alts if the rating requirements decreased over time, so that later players aren’t ridiculously outgeared and hitting a massive wall of gear disadvantage as they climb. Because right now, if you’re using a mix of 197 “catchup” gear and 200/207 arena gear, you’re at an enormous disadvantage against the gear of teams you’re facing as low as 1450+, making it very discouraging to try to climb.

That already happens due to inflation as the season goes on

That will happen already due to rating inflation, it’s much easier to push rating at the end of the season. 2k end of season is prolly as good as 1700-1800 early

Inflation naturally does that unless new/casuals are just better than you.

The inflation fixes all things

I don’t know about past seasons, but inflation is way too slow right now. I got no problem on my main since i’m up to date on gear, but trying to gear an alt facing a huge gear disparity as low as 1400s is brutal, can’t even imagine for newer/more casual players how discouraging it is.

Being a newer player to arena I hit 1390 3 times and plummeted back down to 1300 3 days in a row. All I wanted was 207 upgrade. Kinda just over it. Its so inconsistent for me even if I feel like I’m playing well and chain winning I always seem to run into God comps near 1400 (and hpal) and tank. Being 1 game away (1393) from sitting 1400 to upgrade this many times just to lose it all really is so demotivating. Just need to stop lfg I guess

Glad is already dummy low, if this was a % based season it’d probably be Rival. Matter of fact, the opposite should happen.

@stoneformbtw. You want 1400?

I mean yeah but I’d rather work for it, I hate carry. It’s just demotivating losing games to seed and sh* when I always come so close and lose focus

What rating are you at?

1306 10char

Not being rude getting you from 1308-1400 isn’t a carry. It’s chill. Maybe if your gear is better you can learn easier.

Seriously not trolling or being rude with that statement. If it makes you focus on your own play more not feeling so disadvantaged I’ll help ya get it rq.

I mean I appreciate it but maybe if I’m up to it

Well add the btag and I’ll hit you up and see if you’re down.

I’m legit not gunna flame you or make you uncomfortable if that’s what your worried about. I’ll even legit give you some advice on what you can do better.

I legit was the same as you mid legion don’t stress it dude. It’s chill. I just want you to see that there’s more you can do to become better. I legit have videos of struggling in the 1400s still lmao.

The only thing I ask in return is a little less victim mentality, and complaining. More solution seeking.

Absolutely not.

The big problem right now is that you’re at best with 207 gear in the 1400s facing teams with much higher gear, and fighting a team with 20-30% more hp/dmg/heal than you is an immense disadvantage. This is why lowering rating requirement as season goes by is a good catchup mechanic for alts/casuals, in the same way as the honor gear/campaign set unlocks progressively.

I’ve said it from the beginning: Gearing shouldn’t be tied to rating.

My guess is that it will stay the same and then you’ll be able to do the remaining upgrades via honor during season 2, and current set becomes honor gear. Part of the issue with making the higher rated gear easier to get, outside of inflation, is that it just becomes insanely dominant over the mythic gear that it competes with.

Would be ncie if blizz would just separate PVE and PVP gear, but that alone forces the issue here.

When gearing isn’t tied to rating, pvp participation plummets. People need a goal other than rating and achieves. The only reason participation is so high is because it’s a great way to gear, especially for alts.
