PvP ranks honor

Now I’ll preface this by saying I don’t know how ranking works. So I’m rank 6 and 9.80% so says ranker. I’d need 45k honor for rank 6 and 79.9% but 110,000k for rank 7. Why such a big jump for only 21%?

The caps done was made during classic era where 60 pvp/honor gain was the average. It’s just a number they added for ranking.

It is way better than the old system though. You can actually grind for your desired rank rather than not knowing if you made the honor required for the bracket you were in.

When they switched to the new ranking system, they tried to remake the system in the “style” of the old system.

In the old system, lets assume that you ended up with a pool of 10,000 people after you did your pool party and paid real life money to the botters to expand the pool. This pool size would result in only 30 slots for bracket 14, and 50 slots for bracket 13. Bracket 13 caps were typically set at around 700k honor per week (depending on the server’s pvp community), and bracket 14 caps could be set at well over 1mil honor. Right below that, you had bracket 12, which was occupied by the next 120 people, where the caps was set usually at a much more reasonable 300k honor per week.

So in the new system, they are trying to emulate the level of effort of the old system, where if you want to get the maximum rating gains, you needed to do a ton of more honor, usually more than double the honor of the previous bracket. The main difference now is that the caps are defined by the system, rather than something that the PvP community comes up with (and also avoids the issue of needing to artificially expand the pool, usually through botting). Also the caps are known and can’t change if you have “bracket breakers”. And also everyone within each bracket now receives the same rating points, eliminating the need to have everyone stack as close as possible to maximize rating points.

If you didn’t help expanding the pool there’d be actions taken against you if you tried ranking or if you ranked at the wrong time.

It was some real cringe lord stuff.

System is still pretty jank. If I want to go from 5 → 6 I need something like 75k honor. If I want to go from 6 → 7 I need 110k. If I want to go from 5 ->7 I need 110k. So It costs more to slow rank than it does to just no life it for a week.

Ah, so in return they made one of the most confusing systems to exist.

The new honor system pays off massive binges. There’s no point ranking other than to just do it all at once in a week. You need 107k to go from rank 5 to rank 7. But it’s the opposite of diminishing returns. The more honor you build up, the more potent it is. For instance, once you have enough to get rank 6, you only need like 35k more to get rank 7.

But you have to do that all in one week. If you split it up over two weeks, it’s going to take you much more than a total of 107k. In fact, it will be more likely to take 4 weeks and a pretty good amount of time dedication.

So it’s better just to do it all in one week. It could use some tweaking.

There are calculators available, but I don’t have any handy right now. Your rank bar will not move at all unless you hit a certain threshold within the bar. And those thresholds are far and few between. Thus far, there’s only been one threshold in each rank bar.

Your point was true in the old system as well. However, people usually didn’t push into the top brackets until the final weeks of their grind because the pvp community only allowed high ranking people to occupy the top spots that were generated from the “natural pool”.

However, you still had those sweaty people who would pay a botter each week to expand the pool to make that bracket slot available for them. It would usually shave a few weeks off of the overall grid.

Dude thank you for that, I actually understand now, I should have just farmed the extra 35k honor last week and I would have been 7. Damn

They just made it all static, you used to compete in honor brackets.

Now you just need a flat amount for rank 5 to rank 7 which is 110k total honor.

I did it week 1 and got Rank 7 on Tuesday.

its also 110k from 5.0 → 7

I understand that now :frowning:
