I’m new to Classic WoW and I’m leveling a Hunter and one of my friends told me that to do good dmg I need to hit rank 12 in PVP for my dmg to be really good in PVE is that true or is there a set of gear that is slightly worse that I can get? He said it will take up to 3 months and 12 hours a day to get rank 12 in PVP. I want to do good dmg but not willing to put that much work into classic WoW since I’m raiding in a guild in retail and wanting to raid in Shadowlands.

You most certainly don’t need rank 12. That’s more of a hardcore min-max thing, and its not necessary at all.
Hunters can get quite a lot of gear in raids since there aren’t that many of them, which means they won’t be fighting over gear with each other. I would say a hunter is one of the easiest classes to gear up with raid gear.

You can get full tier 1 / 2 in literally a matter of weeks as well as the epic quest bow/staff. Hunter is extremely fast to gear up unless you have the worst luck on the planet, and the gear is more than good enough to dish out respectable damage.

Yes, you do not need rank 12 PVP gear for a hunter in PVE. In fact, most hunters I know think the rank gear is not that great and that’s why there are not tons of hunter ranking.

Hunter rankers either love PvP have no life or both. There is absolutely no reason to rank as a hunter. Especially with the next tier of raiding coming out soon, MC BWL and ZG loot will be easy to come by. (Although I suggest a warlock or mage if you want to be taken to the later naxx raid as their damage scales up through raid gear much better in the last 2 phases.

The Warlord armor looks pretty cool and it’s set bonuses are decent for PvP.
But again, OP, tier gear and some substitute pieces from ZG is more than enough for a hunter.
Never has PvP rewards ever topped over Pve gear for raiding and damage, later expansions with pvp stats in a pvp event… yes. We needed resilience etc. But for classic we don’t have pvp stat gear, some claim stam is a pvp stat but its not, it can help thou.
Some gear from pvp is a good choice if you are missing the best option from pve sources, but doing pvp for the best gear is hog wash. The only thing that does show BIS for some classes is the Rank 14 which is not Rank 12 … Weapons.
I use a a page on wowhead for BIS for my warlock, which i cant post here… and all the BIS is from a Raid for P4, they have a few from pvp but they are optional, but not the Best.
Warriors actually have some very decent Rank 12/Rank 13 gear. That’s why battlegrounds are overloaded with warriors. Warlocks also don’t have the best stuff from PVP, just like hunters.
I ranked to PVP, I didn’t even do it for the gear. Lots of people do PVP for the gear though. With AQ40 and especially Naxx out it will be interesting to see the changes in battlegrounds.
R12 gets you bis gloves and hunter dps isn’t impressive any way. You will be brought to raids mostly for your utility or to full empty slots because other classes aren’t available.
