PvP Ranking possible Classic Era?

With the limited population in Classic Era, is it possible to rank up with the PvP system? With such limited numbers of people on servers, is the old formula still in use? Seems like Rank14 would be impossible with such limited numbers of people playing.

It is certainly possible but cooperation with other players in your faction will greatly augment your success. Also, depending on which server you’re on, the primary method of farming honor may vary. For example I play on Incendius in the NA PvP East cluster. I reached rank 13 with just 371 lifetime honorable kills.

15 kills are done easily on whatever BG is the weekend BG (right now it’s Warsong).

Any other day, you’re running Silithyst to your camp for bonus honor. Just make sure you get your 15 kills so you can rank.

Let me tell you a story. About 5 months ago, two of us on Era on an east coast pve server were doing casual pvp together - BGs on Friday and Saturday nights principally. We talked about the fact that with so little population and so little pvp, rank topped out at about rank 7.

So we made a plan: we each created an additional account, made a bunch of level 4 toons and one on the opposite faction, put the faction player at a GY and killed it over and over with our many many alts. Just the two of us added 200 players to the pool each week. This took about 8 hours play each week. (This was facilitated by the fact that there are so many combined realms - you can have 50 alts all getting there 15 kills each week all by yourself with a single account.)

We continued to do BGs as they came up. We padded our honor by running Sil dust off and on all week. In 6 weeks we both hit HW. Took about 40k honor a week to manage it. All the other pvp’rs on the realm were stunned. They didn’t know what was going on with us, but they noticed they were ranking up higher and faster than seemed possible.

Once we had our ranks, we clued in everyone as to how it was done. THere are now 30 or 40 new rank 14 toons on that realm now.

It works and it was fun - especially having to keep everything on the down-low so we weren’t being honor pushed.

Since BGs aren’t running all the time . . . you have to run dust in Silithus to advance your honor.

don’t you need multiple wow accounts to do this?

You are going to want at least 170 pool players each week - figure the regular players on your cluster and then create however many alts you need to round things up. Since two of us were working together, we each created two accounts and created about 100 alts each on our cluster. If we weren’t on a PVE realm, we would have to use one of the accounts to create the victim alt of the opposing faction. One person working solo could do this but you would need 4 accounts and a ton of alts. It would drive you crazy but it is possible. Each week you logged into two accounts and used all your alts to kill the victim toon, 15 kills each alt.

Thats great you figured this out. I’m thinking about applying your knowledge to the eu server I’m playing now with a buddy of mine. Few questions though. Why do you need at least 170 in the pool? why do they have to be level4? alts need 15kills and what about the main toon?

Let me see if I can dredge this up: I quit playing shortly after we ranked and the distance between me and the game is far in memory right now.

I think I am wrong about the level 4 rule. We had heard that somewhere, but it turned out to not be true. Generally our alts were created as orcs and we ran them into a cave in the start area. As the mobs they aggro’d caught up to them, we aimed to jump into a specific pool in the cave. When you died in that pool, your toon would rez at the Razor Hill gy. rather than the starting zone. We chose Razor Hill, because it was relatively easy to get a low level alliance there (took some doing - but you could run a NE there with just a few deaths along the way) and the RH gy was particularly quiet and we hoped we wouldn’t be seen when we did our hours of killing. Anyway, all our killing took place at the RH gy.

You want to make sure your pool size is enough to cause the system to open up at least 1 rank 14 slot. We aimed at two rank 14 slots so we could maximize how quickly the two of us could hit 14. (I think you need 166 pool player for 2 rank 14s . . but you will have to check that. And we just tended to round things up rather than cut things too close.)

Honestly it was quite fun to do.

This is incredible but i think I’d go mad just humping silithyst all the time. Fifteen kills on all those alts would definitely push me over the cliffs of insanity. o7 for figuring it out and going through with it.

Because of the way clusters work (multiple servers connected together allows opposite faction play in the same world) you can make 10 alts on enough of the sister realms in your cluster so that a single account can provide up to 50 PvP participants. Hence, if you were REALLY scraping the bottom of the barrel it would only take 4 unique accounts to open a rank 14 slot. I would strongly advise not taking that entire burden on yourself though.

Becoming a High Dirtlord isn’t for everyone.

With 2 of us, it was tedious but the push was relatively short - 5 or 6 weeks. It could have been don’t solo but it would have pushed me to madness. Much easier than the vanilla days though with the need to farm hundreds of thousands of honor points each week.

As soon as you add more people to the program, it reduces the individuals requirement to pump up the pool . . . but you have to continue the push for more weeks to get everyone across the finish line.

is anyone queing rn

there was a WSG going on when I logged out just 5m ago

yup played. 12m game

I’d rather jump off a cliff, no offense. Crazy dedication to do that for sure but yikes

I certainly understand. But I have always enjoyed these games within the game things. Like farming, professions and AH trading - can be very tedious; but I find them an ideal solo escape from daily life.
