Was PVP POWER really such a bad system for the game?
PvP gear inherantly had LOWER stats than PVE gear, which made it less desirable for PVE.
PVE Gear did not have PVP power (Scaling damage/resistance) vs players, which made it less desirable for PVP.
PVP POWER: Increases Damage and Reduces incomming damage vs Players by X%
You have 14 slots disregarding trinkets that could have PVP power on them. If each peice had 2% PVP POWER on them, 4% when weilding a single 2H weapon, that would equate to 28% Increased damage/resist to players in PVP.
Would this not work for Shadowlands?
PVP gear = GOOD AT PVP, Weaker than PVE gear for PVE and vice versa.

Obviously, or they would have kept it.
If you gave the developers the benefit of the doubt, you could think that it was their intention, for a long part of development, to avoid the PVP vendors being used by PVErs by setting the gear ilvl undesirably low, and then using a PVP stat to compensate for the difference in power that created.
I mean, how else could you justify a 3 raid tier nerf in the gear ceiling for casual players - from heroic ilvl (460 from the weekly reward), down to lfr ilvl?
Balancing a PVP stat designed to overcome a 3 raid tier difference in player power, including stamina and main stat, would be pretty difficult. Especially for developers whose strengths… arent really in PVP. Maybe they just gave up and the ilvl on the current honor pieces will eventually be buffed up to Heroic ilvl, either before SL goes live, or maybe after the season begins.
Without PVP stat, that might be our best scenario… that eventually they upgrade… the upgrade system, and we can use the SL system like the BFA system and once a week have enough currency to choose, or purchase, a piece of heroic ilvl gear.

I don’t think it was, and neither was PvP gear being bumped up in iLvL during PvP combat. That worked well too.
The best gear for PvP should come from PvP!

Versatility is pretty much the new PvP stat, but that’s pretty much broken, since it’s on PvE gear too now, and a lot of “PvP” gear doesn’t have versatility.

I think you hit the nail on the head. Blizzard wants PvErs to be able to try out PvP without any barrier to entry, but doesn’t want them to farm PvP gear in order to do PvE.
It’s a one way street.

For their game yes. If you want the majority of your player base “customers” to feel like their time slaying dragons was well invested when they step into pvp why would you want someone who didnt slay dragons crushing them and making them feel bad about their game?
I think its just a business decision about making your larger player base happy.
