So I decided to try PVP pet battles for the first time in probably 10 years. I come up against someone who obliterates me.
I make some changes. About 10 or 15 minutes later I go for another round. Its the same guy. But this time we end up with pets who are able to out-heal the damage they take and after 45 minutes he finally quits.
Is this really the only choice when 2 pets face off who cant kill eachother?
That’s what I hate about pvp pet battles is the length some can go.

Disclaimer, I hate pet PvP. Grinded through the 250 wins I needed for the Stunted Direhorn, mostly by adopting same meta teams everyone else seemed to be using. Have never been back.
The whole concept has a major flaw. It is not welcoming to the casual player. You’re up against folks trying for crazy achievements who no longer care about strategy and competition, they just want to win. A few months back Blizzard, finally, tried to level the field by trying to do some sort of matching. From this Forum, that for sure did not please a lot of the old timers who waited eagerly for Pet Battle weeks to get a bunch of easy wins from noobs.
The Healing thing is just further example of why it isn’t fun. Trying to win just by waiting till your opponent gets bored and quits isn’t really Pet Battling.

Pet PvP is something that isn’t really fun, it’s just find out what the best team is and faceroll to victory.
I played a bit tonight (first time in a long time) and was saddened to keep running into the same comps over and over.
It’s a shame because the mechanics are all in place to make it cool but just like in a lot of WoW, the execution of those ideas falls flat.
Ive seen maybe 3 different groups. So far 2 wins from 10 battles.
One of them took 45 min and they quit. So 1 win from 9 battles.
I think I will skip trying for 5 wins.

I did not know about this (granted I have had a long break from WoW and only been back a month or so) do you know if this means that they finally opened up battle teams? Is this ranked pvp system still in place?
Must admit I’m just guessing. But after talking to other pet people and seeing some of the threads on this forum from months back, Blizzard must have made some changes.
Back last October or so some irate posts about it being stuck in pet PvP queues forever without a hit. This during a Pet Battle Week, which is when the Achievement seekers ratchet up their wins from all the occasionals and newbies trying for rewards. More of them the next time Pet Battle Week rolled around. A few friends who hadn’t done much pet PvP told me that they’d had no problems getting fight after fight, and even winning some of them for a change.
Only explanation I can think of is that the huge problem with pet PvP was being recognized. It doesn’t really attract new players. They burn out fast after losing over and over, often to same person or at least same team. So maybe Blizzard has introduced some sort of ranked system where someone with like 6 wins isn’t matched with a 738 win opponent. Of course this means going to be a lot harder for the 738 person to find someone similar to show up in a queue.
No official announcement I’ve found about what is happening but something is.

That is really interesting, thanks so much. I too remember queues that would never pop, I really dislike PVP pet battles and am only begrudgingly doing them for the family brawler (which I finally just completed this pet week just gone, yay :D) and also the trainer title which I am soooo close to reaching but can’t bring myself to do anymore at the moment xD

One thing I like to do for PvP pet battles is use 3x the same pet. Mostly just for fun, tbh. But it so happens that with this strategy, sometimes, you “just win”. And most times it’ll be a good and close fight. And of course, sometimes you’ll “just lose”. But the point of having multiple pet teams with 3 of the same pet is if you lose with one type and go for the rematch (which often happens) you can pick a “paper” to their “rock” and in doing so, voila.
I recently decided that I need to start working on these pvp pet battle achievements. I’m only at 200 wins and need to work up to 5,000. This seems very unrealistic when I’m sitting in a pet battle queue for 1 hour 40 mins (and counting). Do I really need to wait for pet battle weeks and have that the only time I get to work on wins? Anyone with suggestions?
You may be disappointed next Pet Battle Week. There was considerable grumbling on this forum during those weeks late in 2022 when the queues became endless. They’d traditionally been used to rack up a bunch of wins with meta teams and all the less experienced players trying out pet PvP.
There’s never been an announcement but pretty obvious that Blizzard tried to do some matching up players based on some criteria like number of wins or some other factor. Pet PvP never having been really that popular anyway, now the achievement seekers are seeing even fewer possible opponents and the queues are getting way long.

I managed to rack up 3 wins since that post. Thank you for the input! I guess I’ll just need to spam these queues as often as I can.
