PvP Needs Some Love – Bloodmoon Vendor, Arenas, or a New World PvP Event?

Greeting Bliz community,

I think we can all agree that PvP in Season of Discovery has been feeling pretty stale lately. While Phase 7 brought some new content, PvPers are stuck in the same old grind, with Arathi Basin, empty BRM and Deadmoon being our only real option. It’s time for Blizzard to inject some fresh life into the PvP scene—whether that’s through the Bloodmoon Vendor adding reals, new items, new game modes, or something else entirely.

Bloodmoon Vendor Needs an Update

Bloodmoon was a great addition, but the vendor hasn’t seen any real updates in a while. At the very least, adding new gear, cosmetics, trinkets, REALS! Give PvPers something meaningful to grind for. Even reintroducing old PvP gear with unique procs or slight variations could spice things up.

Arenas?

I know this is a big ask for Classic, but even a stripped-down, skirmish-style arena mode would be a welcome change. Something similar to Burning Crusade’s 2v2 and 3v3 or 5v5 mini BG format—even if it’s just for fun and doesn’t have a ladder—would give PvPers more to do than queueing for AB or roaming the open world aimlessly killing people that won’t engage.

New World PvP Event

PvP thrives on chaos and unpredictability, and right now, world PvP is feeling a bit… predictable. A new PvP event—like making the pvp event in EPL like the new bloodmoon with some unique items—could bring fresh excitement. Even a rotating world PvP objective with faction-based rewards would break up the monotony.

Rank 15?

Right now, pvp feels overly bursty and close to unplayable for some classes if you lack the gear. I think giving us a new rank where we can upgrade our gear for better stats making the damage feel barrable would be positive change for PVP. It would also give us PvPers something to grind for.

Class Tuning Still Needs Work, But pvp Content is lack luster

Yes, there are some major balance issues (cough* shaman, paladin), but the real issue is that PvP players just don’t have enough new content to enjoy. Even if tuning isn’t perfect, giving the PvP community something new to fight over would go a long way.

Final Thoughts

PvP is a huge part of the WoW community, and right now, PvPers are starving for something fresh. The best thing to do is join Arkaviun’s dueling/arena tourneys or run AB where premade rankers live. It would be nice to get a Bloodmoon update, arenas, or a world PvP event(EPL), we need something to break the stagnation.

I know, I’m gonna get some hate and people who are going to spurg and yell nerf shaman! Nerf ret! But I’m really just looking for blizzard to give the pvp community some love!

pvp is dead on sod because everything is beyond broken. kinda wasting your time with this post. they already said they arent going to spend time trying to balance it, so its a moot point.

theyve abandoned the cata pvp scene as well, we lost 85% of the player base last season

Wouldn’t mind Undercity Arena if nothing else, quickly discovered how glitchy the STV arena inside got if trying to heal a party of 3. Spells either working or only healing myself, still unsure what caused this.

BRM being a complete FFA STV arena style at times would be entertaining, it’s been the most enjoyable place to hang out.

I agree with everything you’re saying. PvP needs some love. I love all your suggestions here.

I would love to see them add to the bloodmoon vendor at the very least… this event was fun and active right up to phase 7 with a handful of solid teams playing 2-4 of the games per day. Now its either just dead or a handful of people trading kills with each other.

Also would like them to make it possible to queue from battlegrounds from anywhere in the world

And something to make it so that warsong gulch is active again, but not sure what that could be.

It feels like with the change of lead designers for classic, or maybe due to having to relocate resources to cata classic, that PvP just kinda got put on the backburner at some point and never really got another breath of life. Phase 1 i was so excited to see what other world events they’d add cause I enjoyed the first one. Phase 2 I was like, wow this event sucks ****. Well, at least it’s only for one phase! Phase 3 they reused to same event, and I thought, wow I have zero interest in doing this again, and stopped playing. Phase 4 when I eventually came back, played BRM and was like, this feels like a pretty lazy event, but at least it’s kinda fun and kinda effective. Phase 5 they once again released the bloodmoon event with updated gear and i was like, !@#% and gave up on PvP.

PVP wouldnt be so broken if our gear had stam on it. We have the same health as a fresh 60 as we do in full t3. All the stam was removed from PVE gear to make room for more DPS stats which makes the problem even worse.

That is a valid point, but I was talking about giving us an event, or something else to work towards from a PVP standpoint. Balancing at this point would be a difficult process, but giving the PVP community anything would be nice.

i know Ashara was at one time a pvp objective based thingie, is fairly under utilized and could be interesting to see whats done with such a non flat zone

For me it was the opposite. The Ashenvale event did have its moments but it was very much a pve event. The world PVP happening in ashenvale in p1 was awesome though.

I thought STV bloodmoon was amazing. Yes, the first few weeks were not great because there was a bunch of glitches and stuff like mages aoe groups just rezzing and spam aoeing the alter, weird layering issues and lots of lag. However, they did fix all the broken stuff and the event was really fun after that.

Blackrock mountain pvp event I thought was not fun at all because everytime I participated it was either alliance dominated and or horde dominated so you never really got any good fun fights it was just zerg or get zerged.

When they added more stuff to bloodmoon vendor in phase 6 I was super excited and so were a lot of people I played with almost every day for the whole phase. Some of the most fun and competitive pvp I’ve had in SOD.

what class were you pvping with in bloodmoon? Have you tried it again since the very first time it was launched? I’ve noticed a lot of people played the first week of it and never went back, but it has improved a lot since it very first came out.

The sad part is pvp is not too far off from being really, really good. Right now its fun, but but could be better depending on what class you play.

I would work for free at blizzard (or from home since its free!) to help balance and create new pvp stuff. They have the templates just expand on it.

Why no new AB/WSG/AV maps? Is it really that hard to create new maps?

Have to agree with you. They didn’t spend the time designing all the pvp events and BM gear to suddenly give up on pvp balance. Resources got reassigned elsewhere and we got the shaft.

I have two high warlord characters and I completely agree on every point, This is a very well thought out post. Devs seemed to have just given up on PvP lately, but it can be resurrected with many of your suggestions .

A few things I would do …
-new BG with updated rewards
-allow bg tokens to be turned in for rewards past r14 (consumes, commendations etc)
-open up r15-16 w/ updated gear
-buff healers in BG as heal spells are reduced at an equivalent level as damage. (We alll know damage has far outpaced healing with gear)
-balance the OP classes like shaman, the one shot pally, hunter and starfall Druid
-currently no way to get bloodmoon rewards easiest solution is to have bg count towards obtaining then

Last, I really don’t like the idea of arenas in classic

Arena that requires R14 to enter where one can acquire the red PvP gear recolors (some items I recall using those skins used in TBC but weirdly not the honor sets).

The rank requirement would be so fresh scrubs aren’t queueing just to feed easy wins.

I don’t understand the opposition to an arena-like place, and I don’t mean the garbage DM/STV ones. Functional line of sight instead of a giant open field, and an hp/healing scaling buff.

I hope Blizzard just buffs the classes that underperform in PvP. It’d be a fun change of pace

Agrend’s post made me feel more hopeful for the next phase. He mentioned robust, and I am anticipating pvp will get an overhaul.

As someone who organized a large SoD tournament in Europe, I would like to add arena maps to host more tournaments. I’d like to see 1v1 arenas too. Duels are the most fun and interesting pvp for many. (I would also like to remove the limit on the number of players required for a bg if you are doing a tournament (so that you can do 1 on 1 battles and not ask 10 more people to just sit in the flag room without afking)
As for BG, developers should pay attention to a game like Warhammer Age of Reckoning (not space game). This game is very similar to WoW, but it’s only about pvp. There are more than 50 bgs with different scenarios. Just LOOK at game ideas 2008

Rogue made this a bit more fun, since I could camp out the BRD lava ramp and shank people climbing out of the lava, which meant I could often ignore the control battles.

Rogue, so a very one on one class that’s ambush oriented. Ambushing doesn’t really work well against groups of 5 lol. Just felt like a suicide bomber since I don’t get CoS in this. It was an event that felt like it’d be great for rogues, but because of how it was designed it was very anti-rogue, even the rogue gank groups still felt like suicide groups.

See, I’m fine with this. I just wish there were alternate approaches, because it is an event that is very much for certain classes / people, and not others.

I have. It was a bit better when I actually used the loa aspect of it, but I’m just not a group PvPer unless it’s arena and I’m gettin some top of the line xmog / gear out of the deal. It has improved, I just don’t like attacking one person just to 100% of the time get jumped by 4 others.

It looked promising originally. Even if a certain event wasn’t for you, there was always potential in each one. Had they kept releasing them eventually there’d be something for everyone.

Ahh yes, i hear you, it’s not super rogue friendly. I don’t know rogues too much but I have run Bloodmoon with some rogues and it seems like the 1minute vanish bonus is very important in Bloodmoon.

Rogues strategy that I’ve seen work is them focusing on protecting the healer from other melee getting on them. But ya I can see how that might not be as fun as some other classes in Bloodmoon.

Rogues in groups are good for one thing and that is keeping the kill target stationary or like Kefta said protecting the healer. But BM is so chaotic that the more time you spend out of stealth the more spirit runs you will do.

When I ran with my rogue the most fun I had was in an all-stealth group and picked off injured groups and stragglers. 4 rogues 1 druid. Try it. =)
