PVP MW Wishlist

Seeing as MW keeps getting nerfed for some reason… let’s talk about (potential) buffs and/or other positive changes we’d like to see.

MONK

  • Mistweaver
    • Tiger’s Lust now also grants 3 seconds of immunity to movement impairing effects.

PLAYER VERSUS PLAYER

MONK

  • Mistweaver
    • New PVP Talent: Corroding Mists - Vivify deals 25% of its healing as Nature damage to enemies within 5 yards of its target.

    • New PVP Talent: Run Like The Wind - Movement speed increased by 5%. Soothing Mist can now be channeled while moving.

Feel free to post any other ideas you might have and I can see about adding them if consensus supports it; also, feel free to discuss. I’m open to altering the n%’s of any values to keep things reasonable.

The first change to Tiger’s Lust stems from the fact that too many classes can just reapply a root or snare in the next global, thus negating the usefulness of Tiger’s Lust in a PVP (and especially BG) setting. If they’re going to go about nerfing MW because of BG performance, then they sure as heck can make sure all of our abilities are useful in BGs to compensate.

The next two suggestions are new PVP Talents as replacements for Dome of Mist, and the nearly dead Peaceweaver. Corroding Mists is a Corrosive Dosage-like effect (which really should have been brought back into the game by now, seeing as MW lacks damage), and the other is something a number of people have been asking for: SooM channel while moving. As PVP Talents, they do not affect PVE, so everyone can be happy.

I’m not 100% sure what n% value will be acceptable for Corroding Mists, but I’m shooting for something similar to CJL tick values - maybe a bit less. It’s not meant to be super powerful, but just a bit of extra damage contribution over the long-term. Note that Corroding Mists does not apply a ticking DoT, like Corrosive Dosage. It’s just a splash of short-range AoE damage centred on the Vivify target. Hopefully, that’ll make it easier to balance.

Run Like The Wind is a fun idea… but it has its problems. I’m not sure how viable it really would be, seeing as being able to break a SooM channel is pretty important to avoid kicks. Stutter-stepping a SooM channel is a common way to juke kicks - which you can’t do (very well) if SooM is channelable while moving. I’m not a big fan of having to make a stop-casting macro to make it functional. I posted it as a thought that we could discuss.

This is a fun post!!

I really like your ideas but can see the downside of run like the wind. One way I could see them combating this is making it a passive and being conditional on like torpedo/roll… for example:

Run Like the Wind - Movement Speed increased by 5% for 10 seconds after using torpedo and soothing mist can now be channeled while moving for the next 5 seconds.

This gives the talent a bit more strategic usage and helps with kiting or getting to the team fight and being able to heal while positioning.

I love the concept of Corroding Mists but i think the damage is a bit much if you just spam viv it could be abused since it is instant cast and you can spam it. I think it would be cool to have like a 7-10% damage on all healing to targets within 5 yards… So on average in bg’s lets say a monk does 350mil healing which is quite a lot their damage would be around 35-50 mil depending on how many team fights and if their team is stacking. It would just make us be able to help apply pressure since they obviously don’t want us fist weaving for some reason.

I’m surprised they haven’t nerfed Thunderous Focus Tea yet tbh. Being able to toss out 6 back to back Chi Torps is kinda insane for FC

it is only if you are not getting targeted any root/cc stops torpedo mid flight I can’t tell you how many times I went for the combo and as soon as I start my first launch in WSG I get charged by a warrior and fall straight down and then I am hamstrung and can’t get away anymore or if I do get away once they mount up and run to me I can’t get away at that point.

I’m glad you think so. It should be a bit of fun playing MW devs, coming up with creative changes to make them a wee bit better in PVP, specifically.

It definitely has downsides; however, I’d really like to make it work somehow.

This sounds decent; however, I’d rather it give a buff that stacks up to 2x (like Jade Empowerment currently) that makes your next SooM channel while moving, as opposed to forcing a count down on Roll/Torpedo. This would give it a little bit more flexibility.

The 5% extra speed was meant to be a flat bonus, not tacked on to Roll/Torpedo - which already provides a speed boost - mostly because I want to ensure that Run Like The Wind is competitive with other PVP Talents. I suppose the speed boost of Roll/Torpedo could be buffed by 5%. That would work, and is in keeping with the spirit of the Talent - especially if we plan to tie the buff stacks(?) to Roll/Torpedo.

Yeah… I’m not 100% sure what that damage should look like. I’m thinking less than a CJL tick per individual hit. Not sure what % of Vivify that would be at the moment. I’ll have to test things on the PTR and get some numbers - i.e.: Vivify value on a fully geared MW compared to a CJL tick.

Well, that’s the thing: You can’t just spam Vivify without risking going OOM. This is what’s fun about the whole idea… the fact that you have a choice to spam extra Vivifies for damage or not. Mana management will be more of a thing, for sure.

Honestly, I think this would be a super fun PVP Talent in RBGBs as well, where you’ll (presumably) be splashing multiple targets in a team fight. Admittedly, it’d be mostly pad damage, but damages is damage, and I think MWs will take whatever damage they can get at this point.

I think anything less than 10% would be too weak. Remember: It’s n% of a Vivify value, shooting for - say - ~70-80% of a CJL tick.

Edit: Clicked post by accident. I’ll be adding more to this post.

I think this would be too much damage. I tried to keep Corroding Mists as close to Corrosive Dosage as possible, making a few minor adjustments - like the removal of the DoT.

That’s likely too high.

Making FWing work in PVP without breaking MW, or a needing full rework catering to it, is quite difficult.

I mean, the whole reason we got this is because they’ve given so much mobility/mobility control to every class. If they nerf this, too, then it’s pretty much GG for MW.

Yep.

This is kind of why I’d like to see a minor change to Tiger’s Lust, granting a couple seconds of Freedom so we actually get to use the speed boost tied to it. It sucks removing a root or snare only to be rooted or snared again in the next global. Like, why do we even have this button? :dracthyr_hehe_animated:

It’s pretty obvious the nerfs are targeted at BG performance. broken mobility talents like thunderous focus tea and lighter than air need to be changed/removed and then our healing, damage, and mana efficiency needs to get juiced.

The revival nerfs would be fine if we had comparable hps/dps to pres evoker. Our lack of comparable utility and cds could be made up in the aggregate with range and improved mana efficiency.

As of right now, MW has too many tradeoffs in pvp compared to other healers to be desirable and they are only good in BGs due to OP mobility talents. MW is laughably bad in other pvp content.

They can give us back soothing mist while moving and make it immune to interrupt and we would still be terrible, but it would be a nice change and make healing in arena less clunky. They could make it a pvp talent to replace dome. And we need more of a 3% healing increase, straight turreting heals and can’t keep up with any other class anymore, with no shields and no damage to combat it.

TBH I would also be happy if they brought back our healing spheres that we could just spam at our feet or our teams feet like we used to have that would bridge a lot of the in-between because we can cast those consistently while moving.
