Several people on my server inquired about my thoughts on the PvP situation and felt like weighing in here. I also shared this on a recent post, but wanted to let them weigh in when they can on mine specifically.
Every class is “broken” in someway, they just need to use their class properly.
Moonkin right now is arguably the most dangerous in PvP. Starfall, if not CC’d, is outright the strongest spell in PvP. On the defensive end, Frenzied Regeneration and Survival Instincts paired together is just a very powerful defensive, before you even need Barkskin, to survive a battle and heal during it.
Shamans are a close second, but they need to be geared and relatively know what to do.
Their most broken abilities are Wolves which stun (questionable decision) and instant Lava Burst/Overload procs.
Ret Paladins are fairly strong if they have all CD’s, which is every 5 minutes.
With Bubble, HoJ, and a good rotation… if you’re out of defensives/trinket, you’re very likely dead.
Rogues come to mind to follow, close with Hunters. Rogues can kill anyone in 8 seconds with Cheap Shot/Kidney Shot if you don’t have a trinket and they’re geared/using Thistle Tea.
Hunters are fairly strong with Chimaera/Aimed Shot/reset crits, but only the good ones know how to reset in PvP with a solid Scatter into a trap.
Feral is decent with the above two classes. Most ferals have a single rotation in PvP, but few good ones will understand when to Ravage instead of Pounce and vice versa.
If utilized properly, with the right runes for survability… they can be dangerous.
Warlocks are strong until people remember their pets are the play.
CC the warlock to the best of your ability, take out the pet, and the Warlock isn’t too “broken”
Shadow Priests are dangerous, except for the fact that if you interrupt them once they fold and if you stun them, they just disperse. Their DoTs are massive, but that’s expected.
Warriors are 100% underestimated in most situations and it’s because most will use Recklessness and zug zug. You’ll differentiate a good/experienced Warrior when they use Shield Wall to mitigate your burst, then take you down with the rest of their toolkit.
Mages are good unless they miss their Frozen Orb or can’t reset w/ Polymorph.
Fire is good with RNG impact stuns, but if they’re running Chrono… it’s solid.
Not sure I missed any classes.
TL;DR in order I think this is the PvP Tier.
Boomy
Shaman/Ret
Rogue/Hunter/Feral
Warlock/SPriest
Mage
Warrior
I will say Horde racials are without question superior for PvP.
I will also say a simple fix to add an Insignia, similar to the Rank 5 that we already received, with a shorter CD (2 or even 3 minutes) would possibly help with most of the concerns.
We are the faction/race that we chose. That can’t be changed without rerolling.
A shorter cooldown on everyone’s “get out of jail” free card would help everyone, especially the Alliance who don’t have stun resist, more opportunity to escape certain CC’s that would otherwise kill them.

Finally, a valid tier list

This is also before we see how much Tier 2, Tier 1 & 2, ZG optimization, and Rank 12/13 gear can be utilized.
I see a lot of openings for many classes before the end of the phase, just need to wait and see how it pans out.
Thank you for your response. <3
That tier is 100% correct.

But you’re on the faction of game throwers, why would anyone want your opinion on anything?

Respectfully, don’t click bait this post.
Many players on both side used the same situation this past weekend to just follow the “honor meta”.
I don’t do that.
Thank you and hope your day gets better. <3
Good list besides lumping enh in with the nerd ele/tank shamans.
I think all Shamans share the same location on the list.
Tank Shamans are just that, they’re beefy.
Elemental Shamans put in work with their toolkit, of course.
Enhance Shamans in PvP… you don’t fight too many “good” ones, but when you do… you’re looking at your combat log wondering where you went wrong
Trinket on a 2 min cooldown would be amazing. Yes!

I have no idea why on earth we don’t already have a 2 minute trinket

No. lol, just no.
Even with double Frozen Orb mage’s damage is bad. Ice Lance hits for like 500 and its on GCD, not to mention the Frozen Orb continues to move instead of stopping once it hits a target.
Fire Mage is also bad. It’s squishier than frost, and does less damage because it requires more casting.
Mage is in a horrible spot in PvP. If you lose to a mage you deserved it for being bad.
How does the premier PvP caster in Vanilla thru Wrath end up in such a dog crap position in what’s supposed to be the first iteration of Classic+ ?

Mages have the strongest, premeditated heal in all off SoD with Chrono Pres.
When spec’d for PvP, you have a 4 second silence, double ice block, double icy veins, double deep freeze, double nova, etc.
Another spec would be 4 second silence, PoM, Arcane Power & Pyroblast.
I’m not sure why you would try to spam Ice Lance, but a BFB/FFB into Ice Lance with shatter combo is pretty substantial damage, but not the best… this is also why I put Mage at the bottom of the list, just above Warrior. Not sure if you missed that part?
Fire Mage requires a lot more RNG to play, but it’s still quite viable.
Again, with the chrono heal, impact RNG stuns, the damage is there… you just need to pair it with the right runes and spec.
PoM Pyro + Arcane Surge or something along those lines do well, although it’s not “full fire”.
Double all the utility you want. Triple it, even. No one cares about the heal. Most mages would rather have more damage, even if it meant taking CSP away from us.
It doesn’t make mage good. FFB/BFB into an Ice Lance on a frozen target is still trash damage. You’ll be lucky to do 1500 damage on a 3 second cast with 1 Ice Lance with all of it being shattered. That is god awful and indefensible for you to even pretend you sound sane saying that is decent damage, because it isn’t. It’s trash.
Mage should do heavy enough damage that it forces defensive CDs out of people on a clean set up. At this moment in time, it does not. We do no damage, we take ALL the damage so glass cannon doesnt apply anymore, and we’re a 3rd rate healer which was the “new shiny toy spec” for SoD.
Mage is bottom of the barrel. Several leagues below every class. At least warriors actually have usefull damage and don’t fall over because someone sneezed on them.
Not even close to right
If lock/hunter are not #1 then your pvp opinions do not matter. Most you are just random bg joiners.
Boomies are absolutely absurd. There is no doubt with their damage + survivability with frenzied regen that they are the best pvp class. Hunter should be on the second tier with Ret and Shaman. Locks are good, but in a team fight they aren’t as influential as the hunters and boomies on each side.
One correction. The most broken ability of shamans (ele) is not the instant lava bursts that maybe deal 2k out of your 7-10k hp pool. It’s the healing wall of earth shield combined with riptide that let’s us survive better when we’re cc’ed or hard focused( ele shamn no1 issue). Of course that can be countered as gear progresses but it’s always the strongest at the beginning of each phase. It also amplifies gear disparity. You can kill a geared rogue if you manage to cc but a shaman’s healing wall will out-sustain any dps if your toons are not maxed out (and the shaman is). Before making guides you should do some research, at the very least.

Throwinhands, you continue to bring up statements with no factual evidence.
As a Rogue, you might feel that Warlock and Hunters are #1 because they’re quite a good counter for Rogue.
This is an overall comprehensive list of what is best in 1v1, WPvP, Grouped, and BG scenarios.
If you have reason to believe why Warlock and Hunter can beat a Boomy, Shaman, or Ret, please share.
To Hereticz,
I would think you’re in a similar boat to Throwinhands, but could be mistaken.
If you’re playing a Priest, I could see why Hunters would seem top tier.
Cloth wearers do tend to take more damage from them, but in the overall sense of the gameplay… they’re not more detrimental in PvP than those I listed above them.
All they carry is pure damage.
Outside of a scatter/trap, you’re fairly free to handle them within their deadzone.
To Æterna,
This is a valid point as to why they’re strong, but the damage is what most people look at.
Survivability is always a factor, especially when runes are to be considered, I just left out the survivability purposes. No reason in particular why I did, but I see your standpoint.
As a Druid main, I envy Shamans who can use Riptide whereas Moonkins have to shift out of form to heal, but I wouldn’t really say it’s too much of a concern in a 1v1 situation.
I think Riptide and Earthshield are much stronger in a group environment when you can see multiple applications of Riptide keeping people alive in a team fight, for sure.

No we’re not. People just insist that mages are supposed to be dps in BGs.
We’re healers.
I’m sorry, but Mages still outperform Warriors in every aspect of PvP.
They bring heals to the table, CC, solid damage, ranged interrupts, AoE stuns, dispels, etc.
Warriors have been the least impactful in PvP in quite some time.
You may get some that are very good at the class or have a large range of consumables to help them, but in a general sense of the PvP meta, Warriors are just meat shields we hope to keep alive so the people behind them can kill everyone focusing the Warrior.

Mages ARE supposed to be DPS in BGs.
Go troll elsewhere, because you’re not funny. All you’re doing with that kind of ignorant comment is making things harder to understand for the devs (assuming they even read this) by giving them a dissenting and wildly unpopular opinion.
