PVP key binds and macros (the first step to improving)

I would like to make this into a massive discussion thread. In honesty its because i want to expose myself to different setups that i may be able to work for me. Im not higher rated simply because Im not better at setting my sefl up, ive got too many awkward key binds or key binds that dont allow adaptability. Like my CC is always Arena123… I dont have an option to throw it instantly onto an enemy warlock pet to stop the CS. This needs to change and I need to get better.

As with everything key binding related it all boils down to personal preference and personal set up, but my genuine curiosity is how do you guys set up your key bindings, and more importantly, why is it set up that way.

I had this discussion with arena teammates and guildies about how key binding for arena is very different to key binding in pve. I found i can adapt my pvp binds to be used in PVE far easier than PVE to be used in PVP.

I simply use a 7 button gaming mouse, and gaming keyboard and the combination of the 2 gives me a significant amount of key binds when i use modifiers. I also use pretty much every letter on the left side of the keyboard. However, I tend to have to use modifiers to target arena123 rather than key bind a target 123. I’m trying to figure out a better way to do this. Simply put, I just don’t have big hands. I cannot reach shift and some keys at the same time. So here are some examples of how I play

I do not use targeting binds for party 1 2 and self for arena or arena 123 enemy targets. I simply click someone’s nameplate in the battle field or click their enlarged party frame and then use my binds to heal. For CCs I use a macro with modifiers to change which target It lands on.

here is an example of one of those:

#showtooltip
/cast [nomod, @arena1, exists] Wind Shear
/cast [mod: Shift, @arena2] Wind Shear
/cast [mod: Ctrl, @arena3] Wind Shear
/cast [mod: alt, @focus] Wind Shear
/cast [] Wind Shear

for Movement i use Q W E, and Q E are bound to strafe. I’ve heard some people don’t even bind movement on the keyboard at all and do it only by mouse, I don’t understand that.

As ive really actually focused on improving in PVP rather than just playing it for kicks, ive really found some short comings… and I’m curious. Do you use ARENA123 targeting binds? a 12 button mouse, 6 button? what are limitations you find you have to bind to overcome, do you have too big of hands that you fat finger a lot. can you not reach the F1 keys? these are just examples of What id like to know about how other people bind it up and play.

I dont use arena123 targeting binds or macros, but i use them for party 123. I will use focus macros though. I have pretty large hands so using f1-f4 usually isnt too bad. I think it just depends on what youre comfortable with really. Idk that there is an “optimal” layout.

With keybindings comfort is the goal. If you try to copy someone odds are it’s not optimal.

Just try moving stuff around and playing a bg or something and see how it feels

General rule of thumb is keep important or often used spells close by and use key binds that you may be learning to use more for CDs that aren’t as important or longer CD. I also try to keep things simular like on all my characters shift X is my Go button and shift Q is a defensive.

What would you recommend for someone who’s left ring finger has had tendon reconnection surgery? It’s tough to bend it and I almost never take it off the “A” key…

@arenapet1(2/3) is what you’re looking for.

Im always shifting binds here and there and as I’m telling you about this pet targetting macro I dont have binds for those macros even xD
