Pvp is dying in 9.1

I would say the pvp community has been dwindling for years now. Ive barely touched it over the last few expansions barring being forced to get some azerite ability or to see how it is after months. Its just not fun anymore and i think a lot of people who used to play the crap out of pvp, bgs in particular, feel the same.

Their integrity on making a game fun to play is questionable. Seems like they believe putting the fruit at the top of tree will make people want to play more. Does not seem to be working.

I never left the game, but after March I threw in the towel. The boosters, the clear imbalance against some teams taking on 900 rated people to skew their average, the hours of waiting. Feck that. I love PVP but this is a joke.

FF 14 has worse pvp otherwise I’d suggest going there.

I went through denial, anger, bargaining and then to acceptance for what it was and will become back in WoD. lol

PVE players are incentivized to chase ā€œeasyā€ gear by PVP’ng. PVP players are incentivized to crush low hanging fruit PVE players to chase ā€œeasyā€ rating.

If you remove the incentive for PVE players, you remove the incentive for PVP players.

It was really easy to see PVP would be completely dead this season, when they removed the incentives.

The game has regressed back into, do your +15 for the week, and raidlog.

PVP’ers don’t want endless sweaty matches. They want to fuel up on PVE’er tears.

Won’t change until they address the gearing and the balance. Without that, I wouldn’t come back no matter how many maps they add.

Temple of Kotmogu is about as close to deathmatch as you are going to get. The one battleground where the strat is to fight in mid is beyond the ability of a lot of players to understand.

I can’t help but wonder what’s behind the huge disparity between the treatment TBCC unrated PvP gets and the (lack of) treatment retail unrated PvP gets

Is it just just money? Or is it because TBCC is the ā€œpopularā€ thing lately?

I don’t even remember this level of attention/dev resources being devoted to unrated PvP in Classic.

Let’s compare and contrast…

TBCC unrated PvP

  • a few weeks of complain threads
  • Blizzard responds barely a month later (super fast), making huge changes to TBCC, opens up player communication with multiple feedback threads, etc

Retail unrated PvP

  • literal years (in some cases) of complaints, battleground issues/imbalances, or unrated PvP requests
  • Blizzard drags it’s feet… perfect example is Wintergrasp, which was left in a horribly broken/one-sided state for ~2 years (from 2019 to this past March), and the one or two blue feedback threads have been left to collect dust/inactive

They sure didn’t waste any time ā€œswooping to the rescueā€ over some complain/crying threads about queue times… but over in retail it’s /crickets

Me too. And it feels as demoralizing as ever. On top of slowing down honor progression after Legion, destroying world PvP incentives, removing conquest world PvP quests, removing world PvP mounts/titles, locking all new PvP mounts behind conquest and rating, and timegating/locking rating behind gear, I’m pretty much done with this game.

Time Gating Conquest Points is a sure way to turn ppl away from PvPing …I want that bow and nothing I do until Tuesday is even considered in my quest. Why PvP, when you are capped every week :frowning:

I think this is my issue with PvP right now. I’m super casual WoW player. I only do solo content and random BGs. I do enjoy PvP but I don’t like competitive PvP. Part of my fun in PvP was getting somewhat decent gear (for me) to help feel like I’m getting a little more powerful for my solo PvE stuff. Now I feel like I’m at a major disadvantage and the gear doesn’t seem good enough to warrant joining in the first place.

People hate getting globaled because of overtuned covenant BS and broken classes. All of the OP classes got buffs and many bad ones got nerfed so…

Dying? Nah, it’s been dead for a while now.

They said ā€œrecent seasonsā€. Not expansions. At best that’s BFA. Legion was not recent. Better participation than BFA is not exactly a selling point for your argument

As for participation in last season. At the end of the season Absterge was doing end of season push, he looked and he only played 1000 3s games. In a 9 month long season. He couldn’t believe it because he normally plays 3000 games in a 6 months or shorter season. But yeah participation was totally great  it’s not like pvers came in got their early weapons/badges and got out.

Now season 2 doesn’t have any incentive for pvers to PvP. Yup… Gonna be deader than a doornail.

Rating locked gear actually makes no sense. Wow PvP is the only competitive game mode where good players play vs bad ones and the bad ones get to be at a disadvantage on top of it all. Needs to go back to wod/mop gearing. Let PvE scale to max I could care less.

Your only criteria is ā€œno team deathmatchā€. You know there are games where you can do that, right?

There is PVP in this game?

Sadly, not anymore for the overwhelming majority who liked to do PvP.

Ding, ding, ding, ding. Casual players might even be okay queuing rated and getting swamped if they weren’t like 75 ilvl behind current gear players. But as it stands now, who wants to queue into better skilled players with 15k less HP?

That and Blizzard making PVP gear less ilvl for PVE content.

It’s true, I love joining BG’s and getting utterly annihilated over and over again… /s
