Pvp Gearing, something's missing

There needs to be somewhere for people that don’t have gear to pvp so they can get a few pieces of gear or maybe an entire set that is geared for battlegrounds and arenas.

Where are these people that are just joining the game supposed to get gear?

Right now if you are fresh, you sit in bgs and get destroyed and you wait and play tons of games that almost always result in a loss.

It is a slow crawl, it’s very rough to go through.

Personally I gear for pvp in the 60-69 bracket, but lately even this is becoming hell to do. Most of the time there is a team of all lower levels vs a team with 70s disguised and “tuned” to look like they are not 70. Yeah it fills in the gaps for que times, but player experience goes down the drain real fast.

Can we have a new pvp training mode or something? Quick no nonsense mode that allows lower tiered players to get some gear so they don’t have to slog through the hours of unplayable pvp?

Theres this currency called bloody tokens and this gear called scalewarden that’s insanely easy to acquire (kill npcs wquests, loot a box that falls from the sky, dig up dirt piles/loot adventurers satchel) and scales to 3 ilvls less than honor gear and can be upgraded into tier at the catalyst/upgraded to 447 (3 less than conquest)

true, but what if they have no gold?

Realistically, if they’re a PvE player and wanted to try out PvP, they will have gold. It’s super cheap too for a set of crafted PvP gear and you get a decent amount of gold just from questing in Dragonflight alone.

Also, with cross realm trading now a thing (well, currently disabled due to a bug but that’ll be fixed), I’m sure you can find some kind player that would be fine with buying you a set or crafting you one. As others have pointed out too, WPvP gear. :dracthyr_shrug: to

I don’t think gold is even the issue for quite a few. I think they don’t even know the crafted pvp gear exists. Even then, it’s nowhere near good enough to go toe to toe with someone in nearly full conquest gear. Honor gear isn’t even good enough.

It’s better than questing greens, it’s 424 ilvl which was last seasons conquest gear. Obviously it’s not as good as conquest or honor but it’s still decent.

Not to mention, people get two free 450 trophies from the flyer quest after winning one random BG.

World quests give PvP gear, bloody tokens, and gold. Plus you’ll like get a crate drop will knocking out a few of those. There are a multitude of ways to gear up… you just have to do stuff, nearly anything.

The format i wish they still had definitely wouldnt work in this era anymore… but i truely believe that the 2 set bonus from trinkets in WoD was vasty superior to what we have now… Versatility is supposed to be the pvp stat… but honestly vers feels so trash nowadays. WoD trinket bonus if i remember correctly was like a 25% increase to the damage reduction portion of Versatility in pvp combat… which made sense. That was our new pvp power/resilience stat to make gear feel more simplified.

Thats just my opinion though… damage is super high and these current trinket bonuses dont really help you with that damage.

Not really. This multi-season rank one/hero shadow priest tried to 1v1 my shadow priest last night. Shadow priest is not a class I play much and I’d say that I am totally average at it. They had zero chance of winning the fight. I did not have to use dispersion or VT. They died with me at 100% health.

The player has a mixture of last season’s 424 gear along with some current season honor gear. They could not compete with my gear. Not even close.

The fight was the literal embodiment of gear>skill.

That’s what I am saying, something is not connecting and people are choosing to do it the wrong and difficult way.

The damage in the game either requires you to have FPS-level reaction times or play with a healer. There is way too much dependence on healers in the game ATM due to damage being done (particularly from ranged classes), IMO.

This is why melee is really struggling in team fights. Ranged can avoid damage with positioning. Melee, not so much.

Totally agree.

Buy the green PvP gear from AH for like 80g a piece. Do the BG and brawl dailies, the zone crates, the bloody token quests, sparks of life quest, scalewardens WQ.
In the past month that I’ve been back in the game I’ve leveled 6 characters to 70 and blue+ PvP gear without any troubles. In blue honor gear you are absolutely suitable for random BGs and can make an impact and/or carry.

If players are struggling with gear then that is 100% a player problem because many paths exist for gearing up.

What I’m saying is, it’s better to join a battleground wearing crafted 424 PvP gear than joining a battleground fresh level 70 wearing questing greens.

It’s called 2000 gold and the auction house

Don’t really get this.

If you que for BGs from 60-69 while leveling you will pretty much be honor capped by the time you ding 70…thats more than enough to buy a full set of honor gear and upgrade most of it right out of the gate…and off you go.

Plus the 60-69 bracket is a blast.

Loads of people gave great suggestions already but don’t forget that Ashran has that quest to turn in the relics or badges or w/e that drop from the mobs in the bg. Gives like 1 or 2k honor, enough to buy a couple pieces even with a loss.

Wintergrasp has some quests that give honor but I’ll forgive anyone who doesn’t want to mess with that. The kill 10 members of the alliance quest can be completed by killing the NPC alliance in the road and gives a modest amount of honor though.

Really pvp gearing has never felt better in my opinion. It’s a bit of a slog when you’re fresh, especially this far into a season but it only takes a few pieces to feel durable enough to survive most BGs and grind out the rest.

And don’t forget that you get the artisans quest from I think it’s malicia’s hoard quest rewards? I don’t remember, it’s still 2 pieces of crafted conquest gear that you can get with barely any pvp required.

I was able to get 1200 in 2v2 on my mm hunter when he still had 2-3 pieces of crafted greens a couple weeks ago. Obviously that’s not possible on many classes, I wouldn’t try it on a warrior or rogue, but it’s not impossible to gear quickly.

It is, for sure. But, most players fall into these two categories.

  1. They don’t know the gear exists.
  2. They know the gear exists but decide to not spend gold on the gear since honor gear will replace it in a couple of days anyway.

They really should have just went with a passive higher scaled minimum item level. The crafted gear just didn’t work out.

When it’s so easy to obtain Honor gear and even easier to just buy crafted PvP gear, I don’t think they need passive scaled minimum ilvl.

I get what you’re saying, some players either feel it’s not worth it since they’re going to replace it or some don’t even know about it, but I don’t think that means they should coddle players. How many layers of protection does a player need just to get started in WoW PvP? If anything, maybe make it more widely known that crafted gear exists, but other than that, the system is fine.
