PVP -- Gear should not matter

BFA gearing system would have been fine if they just would have dived in completely and made gear not matter at all. Instead, they had a ton of things going on in the background just to make it seem like gear didn’t matter in PVP which is why it didn’t work.

PVP doesn’t need a PROGRESSION system to feel good. You play pvp to fight other people, defeat them, and outplay them. A proper rank system is more than enough. What they should of done is given us a proper que system and made gear not matter at all.

Giving players a Rank system to strive for and cosmetic rewards to make your char look cooler is more than enough for pvp!

Pvp Talent page should be more than 3 buttons. A proper pvp talent page that has a direct impact on your class Spec and spells is more than enough.
Class design should have way much more impact than this. everything just feels the same

Summary:

  • Proper MatchMaking system.
  • Gear equalization – gear no longer matters – no weird systems in the background to create an illusion of this.
  • Skill is the only thing that should matter
  • Progression is a topic that does not belong in pvp. The only progression you should care about is your MMR – Rank status.
  • Gear and mount Visual customizations earned from pvp is enough as well.
  • class design is really bad right now.

Cant agree more.

Gear in pvp its not fair, its not competition.
Its a disrespect with the playerbase.

I don’t agree to be honest gear should matter but should be uniform across all ratings. Honor gear should be high enough item level to be competitive in battlegrounds and conquest gear should be a STATIC item level with no way to upgrade it at all.

YES

I just want to sit in a city and queue for bg’s. I don’t care about pve, I don’t care about quests or dungeons…

Stop forcing me to do content I don’t want to for gear that gets replaced in the next patch anyways

Make PvP about skill not gear!

i wouldn’t mind gear if it just didn’t give people an unnecessary advantage. We can use Lower level bracket twinks as an example or max level players party syncing into lower brackets.

Max level pvp just feels like Casual players are mixed in with twinked-out players. There is a reason why twinks were given their own separate que system when they remove that exp gain. No one wants to fight Twinks that explode them due to that huge gear advantage. The same goes for Max level pvp. If the max level pvp didn’t feel this way, the environment would be more fun and less toxic. The game’s current design just keeps adding and amplifying this toxic environment/behavior. When people aren’t satisfied, they will rally and complain. PVP is one aspect of many where this is happening. This current Gear system is one hot topic of it that needs to be changed and be committed to that change.

if we had a system where everyone is given the baseline gear that is static for all bgs and arena. Sure that will be great. We can make this into a Preset that allows us to customize our gear the way we want and socket it the way we want. This way we won’t lose power nor we will be giving an advantage to anyone. And since the preset is only for pvp instancecs, it won’t impact PVE at all. WIN WIN.

If a player’s idea of pvp combat is to have an edge over someone vs actually defeating them with your skill… then you are just not pvping imo. Your intentions are just to dominate the players with any edge you can find.

I’ve played MMOs where Gear did not matter, and pvp will never be teh same again. Its just way more fun when you are just out skilling someone and can just jump into pvp for the day knowing the enemy won’t destroy you unless you are playing really bad or build your characther badly.

I actually preferred WoD progression. I liked earning gear and choosing what piece to upgrade next. Thing is, it did not take long at all, there was no rating requirements, and conquest was only 15 ilvl above Honor gear, and there were great catch up mechanics in play.

Rating gates on top of time gates on top of 39 ilvl gap from unrated to max rating is a complete mess though.

:fire::wastebasket:

i’d be cool for templates if like every 10 ilvls your secondary stats just go up by 1% across the board in pvp or something

or like every 10 ilvls you get an extra % point or two to drop in whatever secondary stat you prefer

I remember WOD pvp gearing being really fun i just dont remember the details behind it. I loved legion pvp it was great. I played almost every class in RBGs and did well.

yes but the thing that ruins for most players are the rating gate and that the upgrades are too much

Gear mattering makes people log on and work to stay competitive. Wow has been about gear since cruel barbs were a thing in deadmines, it’s not going to change. Although honor gear should be 220-226 at the start with no levels each season so they can start the new gear grind fairly or barely behind not this 30 I level gap.

If the gear is the reason you play MMO, especially PVP, then the game is failing to keep players in.

Whether gear should matter or not can be subjective to the player. But PVP is not about the gear. PVE yes i guess, but i would argue being apart of the storyline experience is more important. Can gear matter in PVP? Sure, but not when it just solely gives a huge edge to the player.

PVP, the main focus has always been about your rating / rank and to out skill other players.

Rating gate is fine, possibly smaller power gap is needed. If you want to be more powerful, have more stats, then be better at the game.

The thing about the gear incentive or reward system is that it has problems from conception. It rewards the best players with a HUGE advantage. Making the power gap all that much more bigger between new and veteran or skilled players. They are applying what they believe to be a one size fits all incentive system to PVP. It may succeed in incentivizing some to play. But it totally destroys fair, balanced, and competitive games.

Imagine in any sport if the sanctioning bodies decided to give one team or athlete a 20% edge over another. No one would watch it and people would think it is totally rigged. Look at golf. Imagine if one guy had state of the art golf clubs and the other guy had to use the putter for everything. It makes no sense. The guy with the putter may be a good player, but you would never know. Its so frustrating because it seems like you shouldn’t have to make this argument.

I dunno itemization to slightly give an edge is all we had in 9.0.5 and people still complained. I.E: Gems and bis secondaries gear and max conduits. Pve gear gonna be important early season and I’ll deal with it accordingly by just slowly acquiring pvp gear and not whining. Obtaining bis gear and gladiator feels good and pvp is fun. We will have to see if maledict 2.0 is going to be a huge problem and a couple of the major buffs for the underperforming classes but the meta shake was a good thing.

Thinking an alt can get to 2400 on a freshly dinged 60 is not healthy as then you will have all the rank ones running rampart all the way up to 3k over and over again trying to go undefeated and the journey on your character is non existent.

Give or take shadowlands gearing was fine for any decent pvper just needs a massive conquest boost for people who start halfway in the season and alts per win so they can catch up quicker.

Wow isn’t a pvp only game and never will be. You should be encouraged to try the new content, world pvp, and spend some time queing getting dailies done.

Tbc gearing is way more pve grind and time so not sure how retail thinks it’s so bad. Do weeklies for renown and soul get bis legendary and chill

I’m all for gear mattering, within reason. I don’t want to be outgeared a few dozen ilvls. I can make up a ~10 ilvl difference with skill. If we can just stop gating PvP gear behind mandatory PvE then I would be fine.

Well this is pvp, gear shouldnt be prio to be better but if you want gear u should farm for it and wait next week for next piece to buy, and you see how many people will leave wow for ffxiv

this is where a better revamp of our MMR system comes in. We need a much more complex system, Like league of legends, to properly bracket players/teams.

There should be a SOLO que rating system and a Team COMP rating system. We should also have 1v1 ques as well. and a 1v1 Tag system, where we have a group team of 3 to 5 dps, but each fight in a 1v1 format until Last team standing stays.

These are just examples. There is much more that needs to be done, but WOW’s pvp has not evolved and we also are preventing that evolution.

This is irrelevant to the issue at hand. Any MMO should encourage gameplay but never force it. My gameplay is mainly pvp and this topic is only pvp related, so no need to talk bout anything else.

And it’s not a slight edge, it’s a huge edge. I was still able to kill people way out geared than me by skill alone but the effort required was HUGE and unreasonable. When i fight people with equal gear as mine, it’s all skill and the combat experience just feels way better.

Honesty here seems to be an issue.

Do we really want pvp here or do we just want to have Dominance over someone by having an edge over people?

Right or wrong is subjective here, to me this is wrong and its not what pvp is about. It just feels like a twink abusing under-geared players.

Final fantasy won’t be the onlygame challanging wow now, Once lost ark comes in, PVP will be challanged heavily.

I for one will be playing lost ark once beta is out. My sub is closed, i just have a month to two left due to a deal i made with blizz months ago.

As for everyone else. Good luck, I really do hope blizzard and the players get this game sorted out. But if the right change isnt encouraged and implemented, this game will further degrade.

You’re complaining about gear in wow pvp, do you know FF pvp is absolutely garbage lol? I love that their is gear rating gates gives me more incentives to get better and play more. Wow = mmo, pvp is a sub game in wow. MMOs = Progression

i never said that pvp is good in ff but people will leave wow for ff, not because of pvp but overall
