PvP gaurdian/bear

I have a question about being gaurdian or bear form.

In pvp tanks take 50% increased damage, so I have been told. I have been crit a few times for 20k in bgs when playing as guardian.

My question is, If i am feral and switch to bear form, does the 50% increaded damage taken in pvp still apply? Is it bear takes 50% pvp extra damage, or is it gaurdian spec takes 50% extra damage?

Question goes further as if I am in gaurdian spec, and I switch to caster to cast regrowth, do i still take 50% increased damage while in caster form

Pretty simple question to ask yourself, anytime you have a question regarding tanks in PvP, and are not sure how it was setup.

“Which way would be more punishing for tanks?”
That will tell you the answer every time, unless you’re prot paladin, they’re allowed to have fun in PvP. But only them, other tanks get hit with invisible auras to make them non viable, to satisfy rogues that would be screeching on the forums otherwise.

Imagine launching an expansion under the pretense WYSIWYG (removing scaling, e.g.), but then they still carry forward context auras because of arena elitists needing to reinforce a particular meta (or avoid another).

I don’t understand why the auras are even needed anymore, especially for guardian. Every single spec has been given self sustain that exceeds our dumpster tier dps. At best, we’d be unkillable, and easily able to disrupt the enemy team in 3v3. Maybe incredible flag runners in RBG.

The only explanation I ever come up with, is that some subset of dps players get very upset when they can’t alpha strike a tank.

Pretty frustrating when I can’t even play my preferred spec in PvP, because most dps specs are both tankier than I am, and do 2 to 3x as much dps.

ok so is it the spec that takes 50% increased dmg or bear form???

lol its the spec, bear form doesnt take extra damage in any other spec.

also to the bozos above me, no1 likes being held hostage in pvp because some rat tank spec takes 10 mins to kill. im sorry your preferred way of pvp is to make everyone else in the game have less fun than you

oh… damn that sux considering i main guardian in pvp… i do pretty good but was just wondering if i can maybe get more value by going boomie/guard aff vs gaurd/bal aff

Instead of durability in the base kit, classes achieve that same degenerate result with an over-encumberance of mobility. WW Monk, Mage, etc.

Further, Warlock has the durability and a healthy portion of mobility too.

Nice ad-hominem though, Mr. No1.

just say u dont know what ur talking about and go lol

No, it’s tied to the spec, not the form.

Yes

The trade-off of taking more damage as a tank, is that your health pool is like 2x everyone else’s. So it kinda evens out, well, you come out ahead a little. Dropping bear form and losing that health pool, but still taking the extra damage is a major pain.

See the above point about HP pool and damage taken trade off

To each their own. I enjoy tank pvp in a casual setting. But at the level of play you’re talking about, it doesn’t matter. No one takes tanks into high bracket arenas. Outside of that, they have a pretty decent role to play so… :man_shrugging:

Fair enough. I was on board with you until you starting spouting off nonsense opinions.

Defense wins championships

Honestly I think it depends.

Speccing guardian is the tankiest, even with the increased damage. So if not dying is your priority that’s the way to go. It’s a good option for FC and Flag sitting. You can do it as a Guardian off affinity but you will not be as tanky.

For RBG’s there may be some maps or group comps that call for you to go a different spec. It’s beneficial for you to be open to that.

Arena, as much as I would love to play Guardian and sometimes try, it’s hard to be viable in 2v2 3v3 fights.
