PVP community whats your take on stat normalization?

Imo: by equalizing player stats, the focus shifts from raw numerical advantages to strategic decision-making and skillful gameplay.

This fosters a more level playing field, allowing players to compete based on their understanding of the game mechanics, tactics, and teamwork rather than the gear they have acquired.

Normalized stats also welcome players of varying levels and gear progression to engage in PvP without feeling unfairly disadvantaged. This approach not only encourages a more diverse and dynamic player base but also reduces frustration and discouragement often associated with facing opponents with vastly superior gear.

Ultimately, stat normalization promotes a more enjoyable and accessible PvP environment, where victory is determined by skill.

*I do think gear should matter in Rated PVP. This argument is for Random BGs and Brawls.

and yes I wrote this because I waited 10m for the Brawl queue on my MM Hunter with 465 PVP gear and couldn’t get a Warrior below 90% health in a full uninterrupted perfect burst lol

You probably would see a drastic decrease in Random BG/EBG and Brawl participation.

People like to go in fully decked to stomp on people.

for a bunch of reasons it cannot work

Do you mean give people stat templates for pvp like legion? I think those were actually a good idea but they should have let people use sliders to pick their secondary distribution.

what does this even mean? total stats? or fixed stats?

sure, give bears ALL VERSE and Pallys only Mastery, no haste.
no haste to Mages, Locks, Priests. they clearly all want Crit

Fix Stats failed like the trash that it is because classes and even play styles rely on different stat priorities. the Gear is already simi limited but its still open enough that you could have a fair difference between them at the same ilvl.

stat selection is part of the game. removing that from the equation, there are a million other games you could go play instead of this one.

atm, gear already scales the bottom floor to 450 ilvl. max geared players have the same ilvl.

full pvp honor is like 476. players in these ranges already have relative gear parody.

full conquest gear is only real hurdle.

is the idea to have no ilvl diff between gear sets? all pvp gear regardless of crafted or bloody token, Trophy, honor or conquest have the same gear ilvl?

Why stop there make the entire game about skill and not gear. We all get tabard and a stick.
The game would become non existent but great loving idea

idk how the game would become “non existent” when PVP games like League of Legends and literally everything are designed around actual balancing instead of gear

Wouldn’t the opposite would happen with people who aren’t fully decked from the word go, be true?

Either way, one of them groups here getting miffed out on the equation here.

I mean, they can pull a TF2 and have it where there’s the gear only has slight advantages and disadvantages, but never at a point where it your success wholly determined by your gear, but 99% to 95% though your skill.

Im confused on what you mean by this? Once you are conquest capped your gear is literally equalized almost exactly to everyone you are going against… if not its a difference of like maybe 3 ilvls… even on a fresh toon who is 476 with honor gear you aren’t at an extreme disadvantage against someone who is say 485 rn…

It’s not like PvE were you could literally be hunting the same trinket for weeks.

PvP gearing in DF is the best its been in years in my opinion.

Dodnt we have this during legion

Complete stat normalization.
Anything beyound honour gear was a less than 1% increase per 10 item levels.

Basically we all had the same, but pve items were slightly better at the very top (since higher item level).

We didnt get to control which stats we could choose (specs wantimg haste got crit and vice versa). We got woerd scaling were lowbies could beat higher level toons, we got wierd problems were gemming decreased the amount of damage you did, were what players saw on thier end was not the damage the others recieved.

It was wierd and sucked.

I just like the classic honor/conquest gearing

No. What i was getting at with my idea is, TF2’s Weapons are balanced around where you’re never lower or higher then the player just because you have a certain weapon. It’s all skilled based. So as along you know how to use it (Skill), you will do fine. Hence trying to apply that thinking to WoW.

But i digress.

It is admittedly backwards on how Blizzard tries to scale things where getting more ilvl means you’re doing less damage, not just in PvP, but in PvE as well. I think they overcompicated the problem, that which has an otherwise a simple enough solution.

That and they should bring back Arcane Reforging.

I’d say before any of that make racial actives/passive disabled in PVP instances for all characters. You’d see a lot more variety in what people play in PVP if they did.

There is literally no reason not to play 3-4 distinct races for PVP nowadays.

I think you mean stat equalization. Normalization would imply more making sure a stat is valued equally amongst all classes/specs instead of what we have now where any particular stat has a weighting from “utter trash I’d rather wear a gray than a piece that has it” to “omg I’d wear something from 6 expansions ago if it has even 1 more point in this stat to give me”.

I like this 100000000%.

If you are talking templates: miserable, unless players can choose what stats go where. Very strange decisions were made in Legion.
