PvP class balance

Is Brian Holinka still in charge of pvp. As a trash casual pvp’r I think classes in general are one of the most balanced seasons ever.

Production discontinued indefinitely.

Yeah but they are working at a new studio Fantastic Pixel Castle and on a new MMO, not the Riot one.

Oh wow yet another wow killer from the people that worked in wow.

Just like sc and sc2 people made two rts that… didnt come close to sc.

Glad to hear you are having fun.

There have been a few changes that have me scratching my head, but it’s not so bad. Bubble to see stealth is confusing to me. Maybe it just sounded cool. The CC changes are a little off putting, but I understand how we got here.

PVP gets a lot of attention, as it always has, despite what people think. We get more changes for class balance than PVE does tbh. And we get frequent small changes like everyone asks for, with some bigger changes. The class design, however, has seemingly shifted in favor of M+ with free/auto AoE and to maximize “fun” and guarantee value of abilities which does make PVP suffer a bit imo. Also the spec redesigns mid season are convenient for raiders, but throw a curve ball to pvpers in the last two expansions.

The pvp balance changes are not all tracked well or laid out nicely though. Newer players struggle to understand why they take 50% more damage as a tank or why some abilities do way more damage or way less in pvp, and sometimes you need to go through months or years of patch notes to find specific information and there are many layers of the game with changes applied to different levels so it’s not always easy to follow, test, or verify. The only way to really test is to queue instanced pvp like skirms, bgs, or arenas. Duels, open world, and dummies don’t work properly for some spells. I’m not even sure if Blizzard is aware of all of them, or if they just don’t see it as a priority to address. Certain interactions are just undocumented altogether.

There are some bugged abilities that should be checked on and changes that aren’t applied correctly when testing on a dummy vs testing in arena for example. It has been this way since DF S2 at least. Most obvious recent example of a bugged spell and talent interaction in pvp is Hammer of Light for Ret, which does almost no single target damage in instanced pvp (1.6-1.9mil) unless you drop the Seething Flames Talent, which makes Wake of Ashes do much less as a result (but allows HoL to do millions more damage). Hammer of Light will hit the pvp dummy for pve values while using your pvp ilvl, even with Seething Flames, but gets nerfed when in instanced pvp, which makes Templar nearly unplayable. You have to swap talents to a sub optimal build if you want Hammer of Light to do something, but you are better off playing herald, which is overpowered, and trying not to fall asleep because someone decided paladins should be a ranged class with DoTs, which doesn’t sound very paladin to me.

Most of enhancement shaman’s spells also hit the pvp dummy for pve values so there’s no reason even having the dummy other than to check stat values before you queue. In DF when Living Bomb existed it used to do less than intended to the dummy and expected damage in arenas when they buffed it. Stormkeeper’s nerf was also only applied in arenas. Just for some examples, both modern and old.

But overall I agree it is pretty playable. Thanks for your feedback.

How demoralizing it must be to work 1000s of hours on a project and then the company just scraps it

ASHES OF CREATION still in the works though! /smile

They definitely are working hard on continuing to scam naive gamers going on year 10. The devs there should be prosecuted to the full extent for fraud.

Huh, it’s still being worked on

Yeah it got delayed and supposed to come out in 2030.

This is one of the devs talking about how they’re still working on it. It might have been a year ago, but it’s still true.

“We don’t believe you all want an MMO that you’ve played before with a Runeterra coat of paint”

But but… that’s exactly what I want…

Probably why every mmo dies. Why play the repaint if you can just go play the already established one?

the only mmos that ever have halfway decent success are ones that reskin wow with beloved ip. star wars, the morrowind one etc. league reskin would surely have success just because of how popular it is. look at final fantasy

i’m not a game developer, but i’m having a hard time understanding how ‘resetting the project’ could be better than launching and revamping down the road. seems like pissing money away, but i guess riot has plenty of that

I mean I’d try it but I don’t see it being successful.

I want to say:
whoever is responsible for the balance of pvp should be ashamed, because this is the most unbalanced version in the past 5 years. Almost all meeles are broken!!!Except for mage and ele, all casters are so weak!!!
If the total amount of damage done by a class that does single-target damage is higher than that done by a class that does triple-target damage, doesn’t that mean the model is broken?

People stop using the term “wow killer” a long time ago.
