PvP and RP Disruption

Why are guards so useless?
Sometimes they even assist some enemies by being low HP targets to use abilities like Victory Rush with.

They do nothing against people rolling around with 7+ million HP, and you have realm-hopping tourists just going to RP realms to mess with RPers by going around killing everything nearby, dropping toys on them, doing whatever emotes haven’t been removed, and then flying away as soon as a realm’s handful of PVPers actually show up.

Capital cities should feel like the stronghold for a respective faction. You want to go there, you’d best bring a raid otherwise guards should be deleting you.

Why does flagging for PvP and War Mode exist separately?
Getting PvP flagged should dump you into war mode but you can’t turn it off until you go to your own city. I don’t have War Mode turned on because I don’t want to deal with these people messing with my roleplay or gameplay.

That’s because Raiding Cities used to be thing. I doubt the Dev’s even think about it these days.

This would be an excellent idea. I’ve had progress halted by players, usually rogues and hunters, camping the quest givers/hubs and we’re just supposed to accept it. While someone acts like a child.

RP wise, it makes more sense to just make the cities neutral and allow us to speak to each other, not like Alliance haven’t canonically entered Org and vice versa.

Guards are an archaic system of player protection. Their day had passed. Unfortunately, this is another past feature that is so low on the developer priority that it’s non existent, especially with the addition of shorter periods of time between expansion releases.

An update to bring the major cities into something like a raid with bosses that meander around amongst players would be sick. I would enjoy participating in that and I’m not a pvper.

The real problem isn’t guards, as this happened in classic vanilla as well where the guards were a lot more effective by comparison. The real problem is not being able to opt out on certain effects brought in by toys and PVP in non-pvp-enabled areas.

I would love to see some kind of stacking debuff if you were in an enemy capital. The longer you stayed there, the more damage guards would do to you. This would reflect, you know, them calling in reinforcements.

SI:7/Shattered Hand rogues coming and stunning/poisoning. Gryphon/Wyvern riders attacking from the sky. No extra damage from players, because PVP can still be a thing. But, like…let’s kick it up a notch.

RP wise, these were all special circumstances, usually with armed escorts and plenty of advance notice. The initial meeting of the dracthyr when Wrathion brought them with him is much more realistic for how that kind of entry would be.

To say nothing of, you know, the other faction usually coming in and directly killing civilians. Poor Jarel has been downed countless times.
