PvE vs PvP gear

Hi all,
I understand that PvP gear was not as optimal as PvE gear in vanilla, as the Tier pieces were obviously better. What I have been curious of, though, is whether PvP gear is still good enough to get you through a world pvp encounter with a PvE geared player? Or is it so much worse that someone in Tier gear will beat even if they are less skilled than you are? Sorry if this is a dumb question but I spent most of my time playing when resilience was a stat on gear and of course it meant that you could face people in PvE gear.

I hope you are all having a wonderful day/night!

Alot of tier gear is “bad” for some classes entirely actually, especially tier1/tier2.

HWL/GM gear, especially the weapons (Minus the caster weapons) will be better then what most people have until AQ 40.

The difference between someone in full BWL gear and someone in R14 gear will come down to rock paper scissors or whoever has the larger skill gap.

It has PvP set bonuses and loads of stamina. The only time it starts paling is vs full Naxx geared raiders.

So if I was to play a rogue/hunter for example it would be viable to use the PvP gear in PvP as opposed to the tier sets?

Yeah the PvP gear set blue and epic both are well itemized for PvP for every class I think.

Hunter t1 > r10 gear, however, 2pc r10 with helm/shoulder is t3 equiv in terms of pve. T1 has more sta though. T2 is basically r13 gear, they’re pretty close but r13 has more sta for pvp and r12 gloves are bis for game in pve.

Yeah you can use the PVP gear over the raid gear and be fine, most classes would actually prefer it.

Hunter and Rogue might actually be the only 2 classes that would prefer to wear t1 over the blue pvp set but by no means is it bad if you only want to PVP.

How do you gear up during the ranking up for PvP? Do you get PreBiS from PvE and then just replace that with pieces from rep and rank?

You are going to have to assess the situation at the time. Are you late to the party? you might want to do some dungeons or just suck it up and struggle for awhile.

If you are anywhere near the first wave, you won’t be alone in your leveling greens and maybe a blue here or there. You start getting the PVP blue set early - it doesn’t all come at rank 10. Each rank gives you something.

If you are serious about jumping into PVP early, start farming rep in the BGs when you can. The rep epics fill a lot of gaps that the blue PVP set leaves you.

Get a head start by doing all the pvp you can as you level. Getting rank 3 before you hit 60 is easy.

Yeah I am planning on playing pretty much from the release of classic just focusing on PvP. I won’t be dedicating 12 hours a day or anything but at least 3 or more. In your opinion would a rogue or a hunter be more fun in classic PvP?

About that I have no opinion. I will say that every class has enough depth that a really good pvp’er won’t run out of ways to improve. Squeezing the best out of your class, whatever you choose, is fun.

I’m going to main rogue, but will level a hunter as well. I figure having a melee and ranged means I’ll be able to get into groups no matter what.

There will be no battlegrounds or honor at release. Those come in later phases. You can still wpvp for fun though.

Yeah i was thinking of doing that as well, especially running one as herb engi and the other as mining Engi so I can cover both the grenades and all the reagents needed for rogues.

Oh yeah that’s a good point! Will give me time to feel out if I want to do Hunter or rogue then I suppose!

Depends on if you’re in a pre-made or a PuG. If you’re in a pre-made +stam is king in which case unless you’re Naxx geared, PvP gear in general > than PvE.

I was thinking about joining a guild that focuses on Pre-mades and PvP - were such guilds around in vanilla or not really?

Oh yes they were. Of course, as time went on, they started doing pve content on the side as well to mix it up a bit and to keep up in term of gear once people started clearing raids.

There were but they didn’t last very long - in my experience. The reason being is once a person hit rank 14, they didn’t want to PvP - ever again, so they left to PvE. And given that pre-mades are only 10 to 15 people (lol AV), it makes keeping a “backfill” roster very difficult. No one wants to ride the bench.

But that’s just my experience.

Depends how much pvp gear you have. A full rank 14 is mostly at an advantage over just about anyone as those weapons are top end through just about AQ. On the other hand once we start to get in Late AQ and Naxx the gear starts to go the other way and damage numbers start to really get crazy. I would say that Fully naxed geared DPS, probably out does a rank 14 while AQ is more of a push.

Is it difficult to move from PvP into PvE considering you don’t have the whole gear progression from the previous raids?
