PvE servers

Are there going to be PvE servers? And if so, do you have option to still do World PvP? Kind of like in retail where you can turn war mode on/off?

you type /pvp

PVP servers have contested zones. PVE servers don’t have contested zones.
You either play on a server with it, or without it.

I still can’t get over the fact that they did away with PvP servers in retail.

all servers have contested zones.
There is normal servers where you can choose to PvP by either engaging in PvP, entering an opposite faction main city or typing /pvp OR PvP servers where you are always flagged PvP

It will be the old rules. If you engage in PVP you are flagged for PVP for 5 minutes unless you continue to do PVP actions.

Enter a BG, flagged for PVP. Attack enemy NPCs, flagged for PVP. Attack an enemy player who flagged, flagged for PVP. Enter enemy territory (e.g. going into Orgrimmar/Stormwind), flagged for PVP.

So the major difference between PVP and PVE is that PVP servers have contested zones where you are automatically flagged for PVP as soon as you enter them.

Cool, so as a Human I can just walk right inside Orgrimmar? The game has been doing it wrong all these years!

You missed the logic. On PVE servers the only contested zones are directly inside of Cities. You can sit on a horde toon right outside of stormwind and not be flagged.

The world is contested in PVP servers, the only places where you are not force flagged is when you are horde in a horde starter zone/sub starter zone - vice versa.

PVE servers are not the full experience.

Not really. You get too close, and you auto flag for pvp.

Contested zones are those that are not 100% Alliance or 100% Horde where both factions come into contact with each other and are contesting the resources in that zone (and where more PvP happens - even on Normal servers)

I… wow, three replies that completely missed the sarcasm.

My next toon should definitely be a Subtlety Rogue!

Can you?

Flag yourself as PvP and turn on other party/raid members PvP toggle when they; heal, buff, rez you?

Kill people as they zone back into the world from battlegrounds?

Use an extra large pack of mobs to hide yourself and get the enemy cuddlebear to aoe said pack?

Park a low level with PvP enabled?

The first one is annoying, doubly so in pugs with enemies parked outside the entrance.

The rest are valid, ya?

Of course there will be pve servers, that would cut the player base in half if they didn’t have pve servers, especially the alliance who is mostly warmode off on retail right now.

Pve is for carebears. You only get half the experience of the game.

Assuming you don’t get too close to one of the guards, sure. But those aren’t the only places that were contested. I played on PvE servers and there were constantly people contesting certain areas. The difference is that people who didn’t want to deal with that, and just wanted to mine some ore, turn in some quests, and maybe do some crafting didn’t need to deal with that crap.

Orgrimmar isn’t contested territory, unless you’re on some weird Private Server. It’s Horde Territory where Alliance are auto-flagged and Horde are not auto-flagged.

If you’re going to snark at least snark correctly

Wasn’t there a patch where when you left BGs you were still flagged? So when you zoned out in certain areas in pve you could get roflstomped

Yeah, it was when they introduced BGs. When you left a BG for what ever reason, you are dumped back into the world, and you have to find a safe place fo about 5 minutes for the flag to drop. Since you queued for BGs at Barrens, Arathi Highlands, and Hillsbrad Foothills you was drop there.

Wasn’t unheard of that the opposite faction would camp these points from time to time.

It did show just how unpopular wpvp really was…
