I haven’t played Enh in a while, but it was my 2nd favorite spec in the game, so I’m going to take advantage of Timewalking and level up an alt.
Here’s my question: does Enh not use Lava Blast at max level? I’m looking through this guide, but I don’t see it listed in any of the rotations:
no, there are too many hooks for nature/LB damage, LvB is pretty useless atm
there are some stormbringer builds where you can use Elemental Blast though, although it’s a sizeable loss in throughput compared to tempest strikes if you don’t know when to use it.
They don’t really use Lava Burst, if anything it’s the upgraded version Elemental Blast and even that’s pretty niche at the moment. The reason is that there is pretty much zero talent synergy with Lava burst so using it as a spender instead of Lightning bolt or chain lightning means you’re giving up all the synergies they have. Further, the most popular hero spec is currently stormbringer, which has obvious major synergies with and hinges on the use of lightning bolt and chain lightning. Elemental Blast might be used in raid on some bosses for it’s buff, but I haven’t compared it’s numbers. For all other content, anything with aoe, tempest strikes seems to be the better talent pick. Totemic doesn’t really favor Lightning bolt or elemental blast synergy wise, so again it comes down to if you’re doing any AOE then you use lightning bolt and tempest strikes and if you’re doing single target then elemental blast.
Not an expert though, I only dabbled in Enh this expansion.
Stormbringer (the more popular hero talent tree) plays around cranking out Nature Damage. LvB is not nature damage.
Further more, you want spread as many lightning rods as possible in AoE, and LvB doesnt really interact with that system either.
Plus you get bonus Nature damage from your wolves (you will get a lot more lightning wolves than anything else).
Totemic is even more narrow for enh. I can basically take Lava Lash off my bars as totemic.
