Last update I saw they were basically saying they think they might be able to get it out by the end of 2020, which means Q1 2021 is somewhat likely anyway with any type of setback, but most probably a late 2020 release.
As it stands now, people would probably be shocked by an October release, thinking that was early, but that would actually make it the longest WoW expansion ever at 26 months. (MoP and WotLK were both 25 months.)
If it does get pushed back to Q1 2021, it would shatter the record for longest expac at 29-30 months.
I do want them to get it right as well, but… you think the drought at the end of WoD felt long… WoD was the shortest expac we’ve ever had (tied with Cata). 7-8 months from now feels like an eternity. That would also be a very long beta period.
I’m guessing a couple weeks after Blizzcon. This year may be their weakest Blizzcon ever given the circumstances, so the Shadowlands hype reaching a crescendo would no doubt help them sell virtual tickets.
How was bfa pushed too early? I didn’t hear of content being cut nor other issues like that. Just because you couldn’t fly right at max level and you had to do some grinding for things that you didn’t like doing doesn’t mean it was rushed.
I am not a lawyer But: IIRC they have to at least release 9.0.1 in 2020. I believe there are legal requirements in regards to pre-orders in some states that would require them to refund the pre-order fully otherwise. So at this point as best I can tell they are locked in for a 2020 release, even if that release is December 31st at 23:59PST
why push it back?
it seems complete already?
release it EARLY imo, barely any content there anyways and whats IS there seems fully complete in alpha
(bugs dont count, as they usually dont fix those, BFA still has alpha bugs like bugged herbs in rocks)
They would have to refund pre-orders if they pushed it back. Like what happened with warcraft reforged. But I don’t think many people were cancel considering they want it so much they already paid a year in advance.
Err, it’s not how much time they spend on any expansion that determines if it is great/successful. It relies on WHO designs it. So,cough unless there has been a major shift in power very recently, I regret to inform you that it will be more of the same. Grind your life away + the pathfinder fail…
The end.
They will have to compensate every preorder out there in some way if they do that. Their stock will fall. Dec31 is a hard deadline. Theres more to a release date than just a release date.
“Activision Blizzard stocks are down 6.2% after a delay was announced for their World of Warcraft Shadowlands expansion”
they begun working on this xpac way back during Legion in the far background. This is evident by the very out of place store mount released at the time (the Vulpine Familiar), and also in the bg of BFA (with the Sylverian Dreamer) and other out of place hints/assets between.
So listen to a sea of perpetual salt and passive agressiveness? Nah,would rather let the devs do their own thing, especially since the alpha is seeing more positives than negatives salt about key requirement aside. [it’s an MMO grinds are inevitable] They don’t need fickle armchair devs telling them how to do their job.
