Purify Misapplied CD Trigger?

I have been searching for the answer to this for some time now and don’t feel in-raid trial and error would be appreciated.

If I, as a Holy Priest, cast Purify on a player that an instant before I click the button is cleansed by someone else, do I incur the CD even though my purify never “landed” usefully on a target needing it? I feel like this is something I should already know, but unfortunately I do not.

It feels to me, during raid encounters, that I have to endure the CD…all the while with people screaming at me to dispel them. Any knowledgeable advice and/or information is greatly appreciated.

And just for a bit of added clarification, would my attempted casts even show up in WCL, since it’s an instant? Non-instants show for sure, but as yet, I have not seen where instants that don’t land are shown.

Yeah I think if you cast dispel it will trigger the CD regardless. You can just test it on yourself while you have no debuffs and see. You do need to be careful not to double up with other healers on dispel fights.

Don’t know about logs - I think I read somewhere that unsuccessful interrupts are not captured, so might be the same story for dispels.

no it won’t trigger the cd but it will use your mana, it only triggers the cd when it dispels something

Thanks for the responses. I appreciate it!

Oh wow all this time I thought I was messing up when we we seemed to be short a dispel… mine must have been landing…

If it triggered the CD even when not dispelling, that would be hell for raid groups where multiple dispels go out and the healers have to play chicken with each other
