Purchase Flying?

Blizzard’s latest communication regarding flying mentions the following:

Upon completing a quest contained within the “The Last Sigil” storyline, you’ll be rewarded with Memories of Sunless Skies. This consumable item allows all characters on your account to purchase the Riding Skill needed to fly within the four main Shadowlands zones!

There has been no indication as to what and how much currency will be necessary to purchase flying, but personally anything is too much.

This decision could be because of some arbitrary “lore” reason; however, I don’t really care. I have mostly been ambivalent regarding some of the decisions made so far for 9.1, but for some reason the idea of having to purchase flying on all my characters to fly in Shadowlands triggers me to no end.

I understand that this was the case in WoTLK and Cataclysm, but the introduction of pathfinder and an account wide achievement to allow flying in the current expansion was a good idea. I DO NOT speak for everyone when I say this, but as a casual player pathfinder gave me the ability to access content quickly on new characters. As it stands right now Shadowlands already makes this difficult and frankly I don’t want another artificial barrier to be introduce to increase some arbitrary engagement metric.

Blizzard, please do not do this. Stick with pathfinder and call it a day.

TL;DR: Pathfinder > Purchasing Flying.

Watch its going to be a silly ammount of gold leading to token sales.

how…exactly?
Do some quests, get some crap and you have flight.
As opposed to needing a tax lawyer to figure out every stinking detail required for PF.
No thanks.

But what if it’s not gold but a resource we have to farm that rarely drops in the new content that’ll infuriate alot of folks.

Yes this is my qualm with purchasable flying, people are gonna be popping tokens like candy. I’d be ok with it being available right at expansion launch as long as it’s purchased with some kind of in-game BoP currency that’s earned by doing literally anything so players who actually play are the ones who fly first.

they’ve announced it. people have time to farm gold. if they don’t and end up having to buy tokens in 9.2, that’s on them.

They didn’t say it was gold. The implication is that it will be gold; however, I wouldn’t be surprised if they made it anima or some other new currency that will be introduced in the patch.

You, having an issue with WoW Tokens?! Shocking!

it will be anima cap to make you farm it again

blizz: we removed flying because you are not looking at our trees
players: cool cancel sub
blizz: we have compromised you can do every annoying thing we would normally avoid in order to fly as a privilege, now pay your sub fees

There is no grind. The only valid complaint against pathfinder was how long it took for them to actually release flying. All the requirements were easily obtained through normal play.

Probably 10K soul cinders.

Maybe I’m just slow but I’m not getting what you’re going at here.

I’ve pretty consistently posted against tokens. I’m not vehemently against them, but I do think they’re a detriment to the game as a whole. They have a role in curbing RMT but if we’re being real Blizz just needs to stop being cheap and hire a some staff to actively catch and crush RMT instead of presenting a new avenue for profit as the solution.

Do we still have to have the 80 renown? Then we’re doing both: paying & a mini form of pathfinder.

I hated the rep grinds, but now they just came by playing…not sure what the idea is now

It’s Renown 44 (so week 2 of 9.1), not 80, but other than that, yeah, that’s the problem. We’re doing Pathfinder (even if it’s not being called Pathfinder) AND apparently being charged (according to the announcement).

I’m not bummed about a cost. I’m bummed because my alts still can’t fly until they’re 60.

I’ve basically completed “Pathfinder”. I did the story quests in each zone (and half of the side quests). I’ve unlocked all the maps except one spot in Revendreth that would be super easy to unlock for the achievement if I wanted. I’ve done the 100 world quests. I’m exalted with all the factions. I’ve capped my Renown.

Having done all the work of Pathfinder already, paying money on top of that and still leveling alts on foot, is annoying. Maybe next time there will be some kind of achievement to get flying for alts sooner.

Well the item lets us purchase flying account wide (all our characters can purchase it I mean) I don’t know if there is a level requirement at this time.
